Friday: Ceasefire Nightwalk in Antioch Aimed to Reduce Gun Violence

by ECT

The community is invited to join Central and East Contra Costa County Ceasefire who will be hosting a Nightwalk in the City of Antioch on Friday at 6:00 pm. The mission is to work on reducing gun violence across the community.

The walk will be in the area of E. 18th St. and A St. in Antioch, with a message to end gun violence and being ALIVE & FREE. Wear an orange t-shirt to show support and unity of this movement.

The meeting location is Antioch Family Church – 55 E. 18th St. Antioch (IN THE PARKING LOT) Friday, April 12th @ 6PM.

In a previous interview, Pittsburg Police Sergeant Cassidy Wilkerson explained the purpose of the event.

“Our goal here is two fold. One, is to end gun violence and also to heal and strengthen the neighborhoods and families who have already been traumatized by gun violence,” said Sergeant Cassidy Wilkerson of Pittsburg Police Department.

Wilkerson explained how this program was not actually a police program being offered, but rather a program that was going to be community driven once it is in place and that the community has the power to ensure it grows and it begins to call for less gun violence.

She said faith based organizations and the community will continue to work together to expand the program and messaging to help take guns off the street.

You really want to get rid of gun violence in this or any city? Get rid of the scumbags who come here to live and cause havoc! According to my grandmother, everything was fine decades ago UNTIL the trash started moving in. What helped them get in here was POOR CITY PLANNING. Now, it’s too late to reverse it.

You reduce guy violence by getting rid of the scumbags who find housing here. You can march until hell freezes over. Just a waste of energy and also impedes traffic.

I think you meant GUN violence, but it’s mostly guys who are into it.

I agree that the first thing to do is make the area unattractive to present and future perpetrators. The way they get in here is one guy either buys or rents a house and then sublets the rooms to 4-5 or more people. The city should stop that.

They’re marching right now! It would be better assemble in some auditorium and compose letters to the city fathers about doing something to rid this town of the trash which is streaming in here. A lot of it seems to be from OAKLAND and the Iron Triangle of RICHMOND.

Why don’t you put your money where your mouth is? Come on out and join these walks — they have been held on Sycamore Drive, Cavallo Road and E 18th/A Streets – in Antioch, El Pueblo in Pittsburg and in the other cities you speak of (Oakland & Richmond). The walks are just part of the program. Nothing is going to change until people get off their asses, get some exercise at the same time, and participate in these events. So you sitting there at a keyboard, being “Angry As Hell” ain’t gonna change anything unless you take some action. Making your comments on this blog is NOT taking action.

You can take all the “action” you want and it won’t make one bit of difference! How long have you been doing this and the shooting situations are actually getting worse! There are other ways to resolve such problems

Okay Mr. Helper “Vito” … what are your suggestions to resolve the “shooting situations” ?

You got that right Vito. If California Government actually imposes California Law made and voted by the people. USE THE DEATH PENALTY Idiots.
