Fire Destroys 2 Barns in Brentwood, Firefighters Save Home

by ECT

At 4:56 pm Friday, East Contra Costa Fire Protection District firefighters were dispatched to a report of a fence fire in the area of Sellers Ave near Delta Road in the City of Brentwood.

While fire units were responding to the scene, an AMR unit in the area arrived on scene and confirmed a vegetation fire with multiple barns on fire.

Engine 53 arrived on scene as the vegetation fire was also approaching the home and propane tank and took immediate action to protect the structure. They were on scene as the single unit for several minutes and prevented a house fire as the vegetation fire reached the foundation of the home. They also prevented the fire from reaching a propane tank.

Additional units arrived on scene, including CALFIRE, and they made fire attack on the barns and outbuildings on fire while limiting the vegetation fire to 1/2 acre. No injuries to animals or people were reported.

According to Fire Marshal Steve Aubert, the cause of the fire is undetermined, but appears something was discarded on the side of the road. In total, the vegetation fire destroyed 2 barns, 2 out buildings, and 1 cargo van trailer.

Aubert reminded the public to take preventative measures around their home with exterior hazard abatement with the warm weather causing vegetation dying out. He also stated that the deadline for abatement requirements is approaching.

The California Highway Patrol and Contra Costa County Sheriffs Office provided traffic control and shut down Sellers Road as crews worked the scene. PG&E was also called for a downed power pole.

All because of a litter bug! They need to find the person who discarded that something on the road if that was even really the cause.
