Fatal Motorcycle Crash Blocks Westbound Lanes of Traffic on Highway 4

by ECT

At 1:43 pm Friday, the California Highway Patrol responded to a report of a motorcycle crash on Westbound Highway 4 at San Marco.

CHP later confirmed this was a fatality. Currently, the number 1, 2 and 3 lanes are closed.

CHP UPDATE

This afternoon at approximately 1:43 pm, Contra Costa CHP was advised of a solo motorcycle collision on HWY-4 westbound, west of Bailey Rd. Upon emergency personnel and CHP arrival, the rider of the motorcycle was tragically declared deceased. The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Coroners Office will be handling the release of identity of the motorcycle rider.

In our initial investigation, it appears the rider of the motorcycle allowed the vehicle to travel into the center median of SR-4 westbound. The rider lost control of the motorcycle and collided with the center median wall before being ejected from the motorcycle and colliding with the roadway.

Alcohol or drugs are unknown at this time, but this incident is still under investigation. If anyone witnessed this collision or the events leading up to it, please contact Contra Costa CHP in Martinez at (925) 646-4980.

Check back for updates.

shitty way to start the weekend—

Keith Petty Jul 24, 2020 - 4:47 pm

I posted years ago someone needs to start holding CHP accountable for NEVER enforcing speed limits
Ive called and complained numerous times to chp about this section of highway
I bet i can count the number of tickets on two hands that they have written in 20 years of me traveling that road
They are never there!!!
Thats why the crimes continue to happen
And until someone holds them responsible they will continue
No reason CHP should be behind a street sweeper truck that is designed to sustain high speed impacts
This only takes them away from doing a more important job
PATROLLING HIGHWAYS of CALIFORNIA!!!!!!

Keith, you are absolutely right! It’s crazy you say this because literally a few minutes ago my husband and I were discussing this accident and we also spoke about how CHP is never around. Only time you see them is at the end of the month trying to meet their quota. I travel this freeway to work morning and evenings… so many drivers getting away with risking other drivers’ lives. So many getting away with driving recklessly. So many lives claimed on this freeway!! CHP step up or step down!!!

RONIN Jul 24, 2020 - 7:52 pm

Agree.

darrell Jul 24, 2020 - 7:55 pm

Yeah… It’s CHP’s fault. smh

Join the CHP and patrol that part of the road. Maybe you can change something there.

White man problems

Awe man makes me sad-from one rider to another RIP. I “heard” two cars racing caused this- I don’t know if that’s true but if it is how horrible. The negligence of someone else caused an innocent person to lose their life, that in itself breaks my heart.

Karen Jul 24, 2020 - 7:32 pm

RIP rider. My brother rides and I worry every time he goes out.

RONIN Jul 24, 2020 - 7:50 pm

Seen the aftermath of this minutes after it happened. The rider was down and I had to tell my kids to close their eyes. It was not a good scene. My heart goes out to this persons family. So sad.

Vehicles race 50% of the time I drive 4. Sometimes 4 at a time. One or more vehicles driving recklessly, pretty much 100% of the time.

VEM Jul 24, 2020 - 8:15 pm

R.I.P. to motorcycle rider.

I also see these young people racing and weaving in and out of lanes on the highway with no regard to other drivers. Most of the time the traffic is going about 70-75mph but these cars pass me at a much faster speed. My prayers go out to this victim’s family. RIP ?

I live on the hill at San Marco apartments and I’ve seen a lot of accidents at the San Marco/Bay Point exit. Saw one a few months back that a car had flipped and was still going maybe 70 mph on its roof. I swear the other person died but when police contacted me they said the person was fine. People drive to fast and drive like they’re the only one on the road. They weave in and out of traffic. I’m surprised there’s not more accidents. Slow down help save a life.

Now more than ever with everyone demanding (defund the police) do you really believe that the police are interested in helping? We can’t have things both ways. Not gonna happen. Sad but true

I, too, have posted previously about my frustration regarding the ongoing problem of people racing on HWY 4. It is so prevalent, I can only assume it’s an organized thing that they meet up to race in that area? I don’t travel through there too often lately, but when I do there is always a couple of cars flying through, weaving, nearly taking out other drivers. Why on earth is there seldom any CHP presence through there??

Do we know for sure that’s what caused this horrible incident? Rest in peace fellow rider, rest in peace.

Thank you for all your posts. This is man is my cousin. Thank you for the details posted esp about the two cars racing. My cousin is a very careful person. I’m so sorry this happened to u Mike! I love you so much. I’ll see you one day soon.

Veronica Jul 25, 2020 - 10:40 am

I was in the traffic jam and when I seen the body laying in that hot concrete my heart broke! I got tearful?! This man is on the side of the freeway laying there…alone and his family has no idea. May he Rest In Peace. This gives me a reality check because I must admit that there are times when I catch myself going 80 mph easy. I will be more Conscientious of the speed I am

These people who drive like that are usually thugs from out of town, i.e. Richmond, Oakland etc. They drive like a bat out of hell for literally no good reason at all. It’s not One particular race, it’s all walks of life. They just want to go fast.

Veronica Sandoval Jul 27, 2020 - 11:11 am

That is a really ignorant thing to say… It doesn’t matter if your from Richmond, Oakland, Antioch, etc. there are reckless drivers everywhere! Where your from doesn’t define how you drive or that you are a thug. It’s your actions and character that defines you. I just thought I should put that out there. And no disrespect to you. God bless.

Randolph Wooten Jul 25, 2020 - 7:47 pm

That was my cousin Mike Siscar. He was the nicest most unselfish guy you’d ever meet. He would always help out anyone in anyway he could. Please send us prayers to our family to get through this tough time. We just lost one family member not even 6 months ago and now another one.. 2020 can eat my shorts. Bless you all and your families and be safe.

Veronica Sandoval Jul 27, 2020 - 11:06 am

I’m so sorry for your loss. I’ll be praying for your family and lighting a candle in his name.✝️

Jimmie Jul 27, 2020 - 8:01 pm

Randolph thank you for posting his name. I pulled over when I saw him and covered him with a blanket until paramedics came. It broke my heart. He reminded me of my husband and I just couldn’t let him lay there like that. I’ve thought about him since this day and I wondered what his name was. I prayed and cried and told him I was sorry this happened to him. I don’t know details about what happened and I wish I had more to give. If it brings you any solace at all, when I looked at his face he looked peaceful. God bless your family and may He comfort you during this time.

Marilyn Jul 25, 2020 - 8:50 pm

I drive late at night. I try to maintain the legal 65 mph. It amazes me the number of cars that FLY past me. And last night, even a truck marked “Wings” ~ he certainly must have thought that he owned a pair!!!

Troy Jul 26, 2020 - 10:48 am

Sorry for your loss!!! I drove by and saw the aftermath not a good vision in my head now. I rode for 25 years and no accidents, now my son rides and I just hope nothing happens to him. Prayer out to Mike and his family!

Bee Dizzle Jul 27, 2020 - 6:31 am

My deepest condolences to the riders family. Just saw footage of the accident on Instagram and found it rather sad how people were just driving by and filming rather than stopping to help. Felt bad for the family that would see their loved one in such a horrible state. It was hard to watch. Be safe out there. Have compassion for one another.

Troy Jul 27, 2020 - 5:35 pm

I keep reading that he veered to the center divide and hit the wall and I also heard he was hit by two cars that were racing!!! What is the real story?
