Ghostlight Theatre Ensemble is thrilled to present its summer main stage production of HONK!, directed by Chris Finetti.
Since it first hatched in 1993, HONK! has winged its way around the world with over 8000 productions. Winner of multiple awards, including the 2000 Olivier Award for Best Musical, this fun and heart-warming tale of celebrating the acceptance of what’s different offers a universal story with meaning for all of us. The talented cast, bouncing score and creative choreography are sure to captivate audiences of all ages.
“There are so many things I love about HONK! The show is truly unique, as it enables all of the performers to take-on character roles with distinct mannerisms and personalities. The overall aesthetic we’ve created is something that I’m really proud of, especially for a small community theatre out here in the Brentwood area. There are some wonderful songs that will stick with you long after you’ve left the theater,” said Finetti.
HONK! marks Finetti’s musical theatre directorial debut, after directing The Funeral in Ghostlight’s inaugural play festival, FESTIVAL 10 – A Treasury of 10-Minute Plays in March. While this is his first time directing a large-scale stage production, his many years as a performer as well as his professional background in creative direction and design gave him a leg-up on the process.
“But anyone who has directed a show knows that it’s a team effort. The set and costumes are truly amazing. Our Technical Director, Shara Main, has done a fantastic job in creating my vision for the set. Ghostlight’s production intern, Emilio Lopez, drew and painted most of the major set pieces. Helen Dixon designed all of the costumes, bringing each character to life in a way that was better than what I had even imagined. Choreographers Kathryn Lopez and Shelby Weis put up with me when I added dances where none were called for in the script, and did such a great job. Vocal Director Susan Stuart has worked hard to ensure that our large cast is performance-ready,” said Finetti.
The standout cast includes Ethan Davis (Ugly), Hayley Finetti (Ida), Emilio Lopez (The Cat), Scottie Tsubota (Drake), Bart Schneider (Bullfrog), Celeste Pacheco (Maureen), Chuck Phalen (Greylag; Turkey), Wendy Rodriguez (Dot; Cardinal), Nicole Daamen, MD (Queenie; Pheasant), Corey Navarro (Lowbutt), Luke Cannon (Beaky), Emma Jacobs (Fluff), Isaiah Mateas (Billy), Lizzy Phalen (Downy; Gosling), Tori Gregory (Penny; Gosling), Abigail Phalen (Henrietta), Jennifer Greenfield (Grace), and John Ruzicka (Jay Bird; Father Swan; Rooster), supported by an ensemble that brings the duck yard to life.
“HONK! is such a fun show for the cast and crew, as well as the audience. Similar to You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, this is a family show that tells a familiar tale in a ‘larger than life’ way. The imaginative costumes and playful set design will truly have you feeling like you are part of this ‘poultry tale of folk down on the farm,’” said Helen Dixon, Artistic Director for Ghostlight Theatre Ensemble.
“This show offers something for everyone, and is suitable for all audiences,” said Dixon. “Our July 20th 1pm matinee is a relaxed, sensory-friendly performance intended for audience members with autism spectrum disorders, sensory sensitivities or other special needs. Families with young children might also want to choose this performance.”
Performances will be held in the Edna Hill Middle School theater, 140 Birch St., in Brentwood, on July 12, 13, 19 and 20 at 7:00 p.m., July 14 and 21 at 2 p.m., and the special sensory-friendly performance will be on July 20 at 1pm. Seating is limited, so reserving seats in advance is highly recommended.
Tickets are $24 for general admission, $22 for seniors 60+, $18 for students and $12 for children 11 and under. Tickets for the July 20 sensory-friendly 1pm matinee are offered at $5 off our standard prices. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.ghostlightte.org/main-stage-honk.html.
