Danville – Totally Trains!
June 15 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
This always popular summer exhibit will open at the Museum of the San Ramon Valley on June 15.
The main layout of the exhibit has two elevations with 4 running trains running on 2 levels with scenery, bridges, a trestle, tunnel and a village with a replica of the Museum, the former Southern Pacific Depot. A secondary running train layout will features a number of working accessories. These accessories are items such as a working log loader as well as many other fun to watch train accessories.
Young engineers will have the opportunity to load coal into a steam locomotive thanks to a great model boiler that is set up for their enjoyment. In addition to the fun it gives our young visitors it provides a great photo opportunity! Also we will have NASA train cars celebrating the anniversary 50th anniversary of Apollo 11 landing on the moon.
This year’s layout will again showcase several scale models of buildings in the Valley. These additions to the layout join a number of “scratch built” structures built for the layout, and donated to the Museum over the years. The total collection of these buildings represent structures, most of which were found along the tracks in Alamo, Danville, San Ramon, and all the way to Dublin.
This year the museum is proud to also be celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Transcontinental Railroad and the driving of the golden spoke. We will have information on the Chinese workers, Native American helpers and Irish workers who helped build the transcontinental railroad. In addition we will have information on the role of women working on the railroads.
Totally Trains is a fun way to spend a summer day for children, adults and the entire family. Be sure to purchase your Family Pass for $15.00 which gives your family unlimited visits to this exhibit!
