The California Highway Patrol announced Monday that during their maximum enforcement period through the holiday weekend resulted in 867 DUI arrests.
They also reported that 42 people were killed in traffic collisions during the maximum enforcement period. They said 41% of the vehicle occupants killed within CHP jurisdiction were not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The maximum enforcement period began at 6:01 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27, and continued through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, December 1.
According to the CHP’s data, 59 people were killed in collisions in California during the 2018 Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Among the 42 vehicle occupants killed in collisions within CHP jurisdiction, 43 percent of those, or 18 people, were not wearing a seat belt. Research continues to show that wearing a seat belt is one of the simplest things people can do to stay safe when traveling in a vehicle.
During last Thanksgiving’s 102-hour MEP, CHP officers made 931 arrests for driving under the influence.

It’s not over yet because this is only Friday! Those 314 are the only ones the CHP could catch! I bet there over a thousand they did not catch. This is one of the reasons we do not travel anywhere during a long “weekend” and don’t have to put up with drunks and heavy traffic. . . . and relatives I don’t like to start with.
I was just driving west on Hwy 4 and some freakin’ wetbrain just HAD to speed between Railroad Avenue and Bailey Road and got himself turned over blocking two right lanes! Thanks A LOT, A-Hole!
We stay home on holidays like Thanksgiving. It’s 4 days of dodging horrendous traffic, ubiquitous drunks and relatives arguing politics and religion. Who needs that?
It’s not over! Wait and see what the count will be Sunday night/Monday morning!
Guy with no license and illegal, ran red light plowed into pregnant woman then hit my friend and her daughter head on. Damn irresponsible drivers should be locked up!
These figures are just the tip of the ice burg. I’ve called 911 Dozens of times while witnessing DUI drivers on our freeways, and they’ve NEVER SHOWED UP!!!!
