CALFIRE Makes Arson Arrest in Contra Costa County

On May 20, 2020 at approximately 5:00 PM, CAL FIRE Law Enforcement Officers, arrested Joshua David Smith, age 38 of Concord, CA, for committing arson to forest land in the Marsh Creek Camino Diablo area.

Smith was booked into Contra Costa County Jail on two counts of arson to forest land and two counts of enhancement due to the COVID-19 State of Emergency. Smith is being held on $450,000 bail.

CAL FIRE would like to extend our thanks to the residents of the affected community for their vigilance and information which helped in the apprehension of the suspect.

Residents should be vigilant in their preparedness and aware of suspicious persons when a fire does start. Suspicious activity should be reported including the time, individual’s physical description, and a vehicle description, including the license plate number. Always contact law enforcement, never approach a suspicious person.
