Brentwood Home Destroyed in Saturday Afternoon Fire

by ECT

On Saturday at approximately 1:10 pm, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a report of a residential structure fire in Brentwood on the 2900 block of Mountain View Ct off Byron Highway.

Engine 94 (Knightsen) arrived on scene to find a single-story home engulfed in heavy smoke and flames which extended into the attic.  Engine 94 began exterior fire attack prior to additional units arriving on scene.

Crews were able to stop the forward spread of the attic fire; however, the roof collapsed causing fire operations to be limited. There were also no hydrants in the area which caused the water tenders responding provided numerous water operations to ensure enough water was available.

The fire caused severe damage to the entire home along with a structural collapse while all the interior contents were destroyed. The estimated loss is $400,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation with the Contra Costa County Arson Investigation Unit. In total, 24-firefighters were on scene.

Clearly the home was in Knightsen. Shouldn’t you report it that way since the Knightsen Station is in question?

Both google maps and pulsepoint list the home in Brentwood.

I’m more concerned about the firefighter in the second photo. Where is his safety equipment, turn out coat and breathing apparatus? All well trained fire departments know that after the fire is extinguished, deadly gasses remain and the danger of falling debris is present. Not wearing the correct safety equipment is inexcusable.

Are our firefighters that undertrained and under experienced?

Home in Knightsen, and you know that! Apr 24, 2017 - 5:31 pm

This home is in Knightsen! Just down the street from our EAST CONTRA COSTA FIRE DISTRICT STATION 94 LOCATED IN KNIGHTSEN. You know, the one Brentwood is trying to close. These fire board members are a bunch of idiots for even considering to let the Brentwood council designate where our FIRE DISTRICT LOCATES OUR FIRE STATIONS. To bad our fire board is loaded with a bunch of Brentwood failures.
