At 9:15 am Thursday, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District was dispatched to a report of a vehicle that had crashed into Walgreens on Willow Pass Road at Bailey in Bay Point.
While responding, it was reported that the vehicle had caught fire with the driver trapped and began to catch the building on fire. A commercial fire response was dispatched.
Upon arrival, firefighters located two patients who were injured and requested a medical helicopter for transport. However, with a 36-minute estimated time of arrival, CONFIRE opted to transport the patients via ground AMR ambulance. They cancelled the fire response after it was determined there was no fire.
Both patients were in critical condition. CHP is investigating the crash.
