SACRAMENTO – Assemblyman Kevin Kiley (R-Rocklin) will introduce a resolution that calls on the Legislature to condemn any attempt to disqualify an individual from public office on the basis of their religious beliefs. The resolution will further affirm that the United States Constitution protects people of all faiths from undergoing a religious test in their pursuit of public service.
“The United States was founded on the principle of freedom of religion,” Kiley stated. “It is very important that our Legislature make a strong, bipartisan statement in support of people of all faiths by adopting this resolution.”
Senators Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris came under fire in recent years for questioning the qualifications of prospective federal judges based on their Catholic faith. In 2017, Feinstein expressed concern over Notre Dame Professor Amy Barrett’s nomination because the “dogma” of Catholicism “lives loudly” within her. In 2018, Harris used a similar line of questioning for another Catholic nominee, Brian Buescher.
“Attempts by Senators Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris to apply religious tests to judicial nominees are both unconstitutional and un-American,” Kiley said. “California prides itself on its diversity, but unfortunately our representatives in the Senate have evoked painful memories of a much less inclusive time in our country.”
Assemblyman Kevin Kiley represents the 6th Assembly District, which includes the Sacramento, Placer, and El Dorado County communities of Cameron Park, El Dorado Hills, Fair Oaks, Folsom, Granite Bay, Lincoln, Loomis, Orangevale, Penryn, Rocklin, Roseville, and Sheridan.

Strange that a resolution is necessary. It is in the 1st Amendment of our constitution already. I believe the biggest problem in America is the continuously increasing lawlessness. Politicians just don’t abide the law any more because they get away with it. More and more civilians think laws don’t apply to them. If we would just strictly enforce all laws, then congress would have to do something and pass bills.
How about political/militant groups which are hiding under the guise of “religion” whose goal is to afflict death or great bodily harm to those they deem to be “infidels?” Is that covered in our Constitution?
I support you Assemblyman Kevin Kiley. I wish you all the luck in this resolution. Feinstein and Harris have no idea what is the constitution. They are the Devil’s Spawn.
What we are seeing is radical immigrants bringing non American ideas in while legally infiltrating our government electorate.These radicals if allowed to continue will be the end of the United States of America. Voters now more than ever need to do research before checking the familiar name on the ballot. Remember these politicians were not voted in to waste money on infighting. They are supposed to keep government from growing and making our lives better. Hopefully the voters are intelligent enough to realize eliminating cows, ham burgers, cheese, airplanes, and all fosel fuels is just plain stupid. Voting for stupidity with a popular name must change for America to remain.
