Antioch: Three Suffer Major Injuries After Vehicle Strikes Wall on James Donlon

by ECT

At 2:19 pm Sunday, Contra Costa County Firefighters responded to a report of a solo vehicle crash on James Donlon Blvd. in the City of Antioch with three occupants in the vehicle.

Upon arrival, firefighters located a vehicle that hit a wall with three teenage occupants sustaining major injuries and were all determined to be trauma activation’s with possibly two occupants who hit their head on the windshield.

According to Antioch Police, none of the occupants in the vehicle were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash and speed is believed to be a factor as a vehicle was traveling westbound on James Donlon at before hitting the center divide at Nightingale Drive and hopping the curb and striking the wall before coming to a rest in the middle of the roadway.

No other vehicles were involved and no other injuries were reported. Police, however, did have to shutdown the westbound direction of James Donlon at Nightingale. Police did not provide the ages of the occupants, but did say they were all believed to be teenagers.

No further information was released.

The driver was just cited for speeding last week during the APD with other local law enforcement officers crack down on speeders along James Donlon. Driver must want to end his young life doing dumb things.

Car engines should be designed NOT to start until the seat belts are secured.

James Donlon has been out of control since the day it opened. Just went past this spot and people were doing 60 going past us. Nice hole in the wall though.

I was at the park across the street when i saw this accident happen. Immediately me, my sister and my cousin ran across the street and pulled the 3 patients out of the car safely, with C-Spine in tact, before fire or police got on scene. Once APD got on scene they helped me and my sister stabilize the 3 and begin to asses and render first aide to the injuries the best we could before fire got on scene. As an off duty firefighter/EMT I did the best I could for the situation and I’m glad all 3 will be okay.

You, your sister and cousin were really great to jump into action like that. Thank you for caring.

Drove this road for over ten years and in that time I witnessed many memorials containing flowers, balloons, teddybears and condolence messages. Once, while on a bike, I passed a women in her 40’s weeping as she refreshed the memorial that had been about a year old. Stopped the speeding on this road. No more road side memorials on James Donlon.
