Antioch POA to Raffle off Firearm During Charity Poker Tournament

by ECT

The Antioch Police Officers Association announced they received a raffle prize to help them raise funds for upcoming community giveaways this fall with the donation of a firearm.

As part of their upcoming charity Poker Tournament on August 17, Hook Line and Sinker of Oakley have donated a Springfield Armory 1911 A1 .45 caliber valued at $828.00. Meanwhile, Delta Tactical Training Group have offered a 1-day pistol safety and fundamentals training course (valued at $240).

Raffle tickets are $20 each and you DO NOT need to be present to win. You can pay by cash or credit/debit card at the event. On-line, you can go to www.antiochpoa.org and purchase your tickets. All ticket sales will STOP at 8:00 pm the day of the event. The drawing will be at 8:30 p.m. on August 17th, 2019.

Funds from this event will help us host the “Trick or Treat With APD” event which thousands of youths and families attend. It is at this event, officers create a haunted house inside the police department and many officers in different departments are in attendance engaging with youths while handing out gift bags and candy, and enjoy games and even a K9 Demo.

Funding also helps keep their Holiday Food Drive possible as last year they provided 70-families with a complete holiday dinner and other relief.  We also helped 13-families with our Adopt-a-Family program which provided a Christmas dinner, Christmas tree along with gifts, clothing, jackets and other items.

None of this is possible without the help of our community who help make these programs possible through their generosity and participation. If you cannot attend the tournament and still want to participate, cash donations and toy donations are always welcome.

Tickets are $65 (or $25 for dinner only) and are limited to the first 150 players. Payouts are provided to the top 3 finishers in the tournament at $500, $300 and $100.

For tickets, visit: www.antiochpoa.org

*All fee’s associated with the purchase and transfer of the firearm are the responsibility of the winner. It is the responsibility of the winner to ensure they are legally allowed to purchase and own a firearm. The firearm must be claimed within 30 days from the event. There is no cash value associated with the prizes.*

I think this is in really poor taste, given the level of gun violence in our country.

I agree. Maybe one of Antioch’s fine gang members will win and shoot up a little more of our fine City.

Richard Aug 17, 2019 - 12:00 pm

Not if the rest of us are armed and vigilant!

thedude Aug 16, 2019 - 1:27 pm

opinions are like A$$*oles, everyone has one.

Lori Aug 17, 2019 - 12:02 pm

There would be fewer incidents of violence in this country if everyone was armed-to-the-teeth! Think about it!

Patricia Aug 14, 2019 - 11:04 am

Shame on you! Do you really wonder why this world is what it is or is this just job security?

Only Antioch Aug 14, 2019 - 11:11 am

Why? A nice young upstanding boy, a good kid who wouldn’t hurt anyone, that is straightening out his life can get a chance to win. Think positive.

Rich Aug 14, 2019 - 12:46 pm

I understand it’s for a good cause, but I am uncomfortable with guns being used as a prize in my community. There could be many other prizes that would promote positivity, and potentially further commerce, rather than this.

This should be a monthly event! Every adult should be armed and practice at the firing range every chance they get. This is what will stop active shooters because they will know that they can be taken out fast if they so much as even think about going on a shooting rampage!

That guy Aug 14, 2019 - 12:59 pm

its not in poor taste at all. Just Americans exercising their rights, just like we are by posting with the freedom of speech. AMERICA!

Sad Sad State Aug 14, 2019 - 5:22 pm

Correct, there is NOTHING wrong with this. Just because you win a firearm in a raffle doesn’t mean you walk away with it. The lack of knowledge from you folks is far scarier than this story. Keep following your emotional CA politicians they want that and your vote.

Julio Aug 14, 2019 - 1:56 pm

This is very disappointing.

Nick Aug 14, 2019 - 6:11 pm

Raffling off a gun is stupid. It’s sending the wrong message. We don’t care who walks away with the gun. Just come up with the money. Nice. Only the whack job guns nuts are in favor.

Leslie Aug 15, 2019 - 6:44 am

This is the police association. The gun should replace the badge as their symbol.

Enough Is Enough Aug 15, 2019 - 12:08 pm

It’s rather strange, really. One day a community holds gun take back events, then gives guns away the next.

Guns will always be Aug 15, 2019 - 1:37 pm

It’s ALL Political. Chicago gets 40 gun shot victims every week. No one headlines that.
No politician cares about anyone but themselves. Just like a criminal will never obey a new gun restriction or law. It is what it is.

Now, thats a raffle ticket I would buy, Jp.

Tammy Aug 16, 2019 - 1:14 pm

GREAT IDEA! If more upstanding citizens were armed, we might not have as many active shooters if they know that they might be taken out BEFORE they even think about shooting at people. the potential shooter might think twice! Remember this:

“AN ARMED SOCIETY IS A POLITE SOCIETY”

thedude Aug 16, 2019 - 1:29 pm

Tammy, I think I love you….. I am all for armed citizens. too bad the COCO county sheriff is refusing to hand out concealed carry, or I would have had one years ago.

Dawn Aug 17, 2019 - 11:53 am

thedude, it’s AMAZING how quickly the COCO sheriff will hand out concealed weapon permits IF you send a nice, fat check to his reelection campaign. Money talks!

Since when is it the good COCO sheriff’s prerogative to make decision who gets a concealed weapons carry permit? Someone should remind him of the US CONSTITUTION! I think it pretty much trumps states’ rights.

These people in the comment section are the reason I am leaving California. This place is full of ignarant sheeple that follow all the mainstream agendas. When big brother comes for you good luck defending yourself without a weapon. Guns are not the problem, people are the problem. What are you liberals going ot do ban people. Cheers. Live Free or Die mother truckers!

Nick Aug 17, 2019 - 1:54 pm

This isn’t a liberal problem. I’m a moderate Republican, and auctioning off guns is STUPID. A good friend of mine (retired LEO) agrees.

Harry Aug 17, 2019 - 2:13 pm

My many good friends in active law enforcement agree with me that everyone should be armed and/or owned guns. That’s the only way you will stop people from killing. They will know that other people are armed and might just take a shooter out.

Melanie Aug 17, 2019 - 6:33 pm

Most of us don’t go through life paranoid, and that’s exactly what gun owners are. What good is a gun going to do if someone breaks into my house and points a gun at me? It’s not like I’m going to have my loaded gun on me at all times, or given a chance to go get my gun. Do you keep a gun in every room, or your loaded gun on your waist band at all times? Do you shower with it? Make love with it? Sleep with it under your pillow? Is it on your dining room table while eating. What a pathetic way to live.

That being said, I do think you have every right to own one. Most of us just aren’t that paranoid.

Maureen Aug 17, 2019 - 11:58 am

I spent a number of years living in Switzerland where every head-of-household, BY LAW, is required to own firearms! There are no active shooters in that country because if one even thinks of going on a rampage, he KNOWS he will be cut down before he can even draw!

Areas posted as “GUN-FREE ZONES” are just begging to experience a shoot up! We need more guns here, NOT FEWER. And yes, “An armed society is a polite society.”

So who won?
