The Antioch Police Department responded to a report of shots fired at approximately 11:00 pm Friday night at a home on Mandarin Way in the City of Antioch.

It was reported that a family member began firing gunshots inside a home which also struck neighboring homes on the street. He then barricaded himself inside the house for approximately 5-hours before surrendering after a chemical agent was deployed by the SWAT team.

No injuries were reported.

6:00 am Antioch Police Update

On 3/26/2021, at approximately 2300 hours, Antioch Police dispatch received calls of shots fired at multiple addresses in the 2200 block of Mandarin Wy. Upon arrival, Officers determined a 39 year-old estranged family member had arrived at one of the residences unannounced.

The suspect was acting paranoid and without explanation began firing shots inside of the house which also penetrated the neighboring residence. Officers were able to safely evacuate the family members and learned the suspect was still inside the house armed.

A perimeter was set up and nearby residences were evacuated for safety.

As a result, a SWAT call out was initiated as well as CNT response. The SWAT team responded with their Rescue Vehicle, which allowed for safe deployment of officers and provided ballistic cover in the event of gunfire from the suspect. Attempts to contact the barricaded suspect were initially unsuccessful.

The SWAT team was able to have UAV Operators visually clear most of the residence with UAV’s. A police K9 located the suspect locked inside of a bathroom, but he refused to surrender.

Antioch Police Crisis Negotiators attempted to establish communication in order to get the suspect to surrender, but he continued to refuse. Eventually the SWAT team deployed chemical agents through the bathroom door. The chemical agents were effective and the suspect eventually surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident or use of force.

The suspect was identified as Sudan Holland. He received medical treatment at a local hospital for chemical exposure and was booked into Martinez County Jail.

Wow. Good thing the “Council” didn’t take that “Tank” and go home with it after the last meeting. It sure as hell reads that it was a “Neseccary” tool for this call. But, thats just this residents opinion.
Wonder if the police brought the person some tea and grumbles with them with the all mighty “Fly Swatters” they will be issued when the “Council” replaces their current equipment?

Are you listening, Mayor Thorpe? This is the reality that police officers have to deal with.

Thank you APD Mar 27, 2021 - 10:02 am

Wow, yep good thing the “military grade “ vehicle is still around; unfortunately there will always be a need for it here in Antioch. Did you here that, City Council?? Tamisha? Lamar?

Instead of the police showing up, some SOCIAL WORKERS should have been deployed to handle this disturbance. They could have encountered the scumbag and sang “Kumbaya” to him urging him to surrender. Would have saved some police time and money.

You editorialized….”which allowed for safe deployment of officers and provided ballistic cover in the event of gunfire from the suspect”… Not news and not fact. Your opinion, as the cover is only if the officers stay with the “rescue vehicle”.So they needed to be safely deployed from the police station to the incident?? Was there a war zone between APD and the incident on Mandarin Way??. Why don’t we just get those type vehicles for ALL officers to be safely transported around on patrol??You just want the same ol’ policing, as it has been fine for some…not so good for others. Police need tons of military equipment for the same reason certain types like to dress their semi automatic rifles in military shroud, dress in camp gear and play war in the woods, shooting pumpkins. Not needed in the community for protecting and serving. All cities have them…borrow one. Check cop ranks and find a bunch of rifle company types…arrrgh…

Per APD… it was a safe deployment.

It is just horrible an uneducated City Council is taking APD’s vehicle and I read in the comments yesterday that Chief Brooks won’t be around much longer. That is beyond depressing. Antioch City Council is knowingly putting APD lives in jeopardy to promote their ridiculous personal agenda of no one seems to exactly know what it is. I think the citizens of Antioch need to take legal action against the City Council and City of Antioch for jeopardizing and upsetting public safety and not having the interests of the City at heart only their personal political stuff which we are all sick of because nothing ever materializes or gets done. What a crappy election. Do away with the District Division voting change. I should have been able to vote on that as a citizen of Antioch.

Why should our police borrow an armored vehicle when they can have some of their own given to them for free by the federal government? What if other cities have theirs in use at the same time? Could easily happen.

Next time, in such a situation, send in Tamisha and let her loose with the gutter language and the guy will run out the door with his hands up or holding his ears! That woman could scare a buzzard off a shit wagon!

Marilu Vazquez Mar 28, 2021 - 2:15 pm

I’d like to tell you where we should send Tamisha, and DUH MAYOR, but ECT might censor it.

Sure….once she pulls out her “City Council Card!

Phillip IV Mar 29, 2021 - 9:59 pm

She has no right to be on that Council! She’s a felon and ARSONISTS cannot run for office, no matter what and the time doesn’t matter. The city attorney is not doing his job to remove her. Both should be removed!

Vicki S. Flowers Mar 30, 2021 - 2:32 am

Walker is a felon (arsonist) and they are not allowed to run for any political office.

Darcy Jens Apr 1, 2021 - 1:01 am

Is that foul-mouthed POS still being allowed to sit on the Council? What in hell is the problem with the City Manager and City Lawyer? They should have her thrown out.
