Antioch: Firefighters Battle 1.5 Acre Vegetation Fire Off Lone Tree Way

At 4:05 pm Saturday, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters responded to a report of a vegetation fire off Lone Tree Way at Terranova Drive in the city of Antioch.

While responding, Engine 82 reported a column of smoke showing and arrived at Dandridge Court where they reported at least 5 homes were threatened. A structure protection response was also requested.

By 4:28 pm, the homes were no longer threatened by the fire and the fire was under control.

By 5:00 pm, the fire was estimated to be approximately 1.5 acres. The cause of the fire was under investigation.

A couple of people in that neighborhood witnessed the fire being started by the homeless who camp out below the water tower. They lit the fire and then tried to run away. This was reported to the Antioch PD. Now, let’s see if the cops do anything about it. We are supposed to get 100+ degree heat Monday-Thursday …. just what we need to worry about — firebugs!

I hope people really pay attention to what is going on this week with very high heat and I hope it’s not windy or we’re in trouble.
