Antioch City Council Set to Discuss Future of Homeless Encampment Ad-hoc Committee

by ECT

On Tuesday, the City of Antioch will discuss whether to dissolve its Homeless Encampment Ad-hoc Committee or from a new ad-hoc committee with a different goal or create a standing committee.

This committee was created last April with Mayor Pro Tem Joy Motts and Lamar Thorpe who worked this past year to gather information from community stakeholders to create immediate, short-term and long-term homeless solutions for the City of Antioch.

The committee also hosted a series of community meetings which resulted in the creation of a homeless and housing services, the hiring of a unhoused resident consultant, and worked with the state to bring 5 FEMA trailers to the city to house homeless. In total, the committee has worked to ensure $617k is available for homeless services.

According to the Staff Report, the council will determine if the committee should be dissolved or create a standing committee.

Wow, so all year you talked about it? Then what ? You all went home to your home while the homeless still stayed homeless and they are still around the corner from me. And at least two times a week I cook and go give them food or we go get blankets and give them to the homeless. It’s the same folks they have been homeless all year long and I don’t see any of you down here helping them. So instead of talking about it show some action. Pittsburg got them selves cleaned up West Pittsburg got their city cleaned up Brentwood looks nice and neat but Antioch still looks like a garbage dump I have lived here 45 years and I have watched it go downhill and none of you that are in charge are doing anything to make the city beautiful at all or if you do it’s very limited you do the least possible. Step up your game, this is an embarrassment for the city of Antioch.
