All Fireworks Banned in Contra Costa County

by ECT

The Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff reminds all county residents about the use of fireworks during the 4th of July holiday.

Contra Costa County is a ‘fireworks-free zone’; the sale, possession or use of fireworks of all types and sizes (including Safe & Sane fireworks) are banned in the county (County ordinance 44-2.002). This includes the unincorporated areas as well as the cities.

Deputy Sheriffs and officers on patrol will confiscate all fireworks. Typical fireworks problems in the past have included aerial skyrockets of varying sizes, from bottle rockets to three inch mortar launched shells. Fireworks purchased in neighboring counties, other states, or over the internet are illegal to use or possess in Contra Costa County.

Offenders could also face up to $500 in fines. Possession of dangerous fireworks, like M-80’s or cherry bombs, constitute a felony and could result in fines of up to $5,000 and imprisonment. Violators may either receive a citation in the case of a misdemeanor, or they could be booked in jail for felony use or possession of fireworks.

I don’t t expect the sheriffs to do much. I will believe they are proactive when the stats come out. Lately I have been very disappointed with our Sheriffs Dept. it seems to have gone to excuse after excuse. Maybe they think the DA will not do anything so they will be the same. Who knows. Rest In Peace Warren we miss you. The last Sheriff was great.

Forget the sheriffs and other “law enforcement” people. If some bozo so much as lights up a sparkler close to my house, he’s FINISHED! Hope his medical insurance is paid up.

All Contra Costa Fire Department stations should offer to let people drop off fireworks without penalty of being cited, fined or arrested. A lot of people have fireworks they wish they could legally dispose of.

They did that and only got 25 lbs which is nothing! Seems like the system in place now isn’t working, so we have to go to Plan B and then Plan C. . . or we have to deal with this pestilence ourselves if law enforcement doesn’t take care of it. What good is an ordinance when it’s not enforced?
