Airbnb Bans “Party Houses” After Deadly Orinda Shooting

by ECT

On Saturday, in a series of tweets, Airbnb’s CEO Brian Chesky said the company would ban “party houses” and said the company “must do better, and we will” while also saying “this is unacceptable.”

According to Chesky, they are creating a dedicated “party house” rapid response team while doubling their efforts to combat unauthorized parties and get rid of abusive hosts and guests.

Here is a look at the tweets that were sent out Saturday morning in order:

    • What happened on Thursday night in Orinda, CA was horrible. I feel for the families and neighbors impacted by this tragedy – we are working to support them.
    • Starting today, we are banning “party houses” and we are redoubling our efforts to combat unauthorized parties and get rid of abusive host and guest conduct, including conduct that leads to the terrible events we saw in Orinda. Here is what we are doing:
    • First, we are expanding manual screening of high-risk reservations flagged by our risk detection technology.
    • Second, we are creating a dedicated “party house” rapid response team.
    • Third, we are taking immediate action against users who violate these enhanced guest policies, including removal.
    • I have directed Margaret Richardson from our Executive Team to oversee this new team and initiate a 10 day sprint to review and accelerate the development and implementation of these new safety initiatives.
    • We must do better, and we will. This is unacceptable.

About time airbnb disappears off the face of the earth. When I’m traveling, I want a concierge, room service, comfort … not be around someone else’s stuff.

Then perhaps don’t use Airbnb, Bob. Simple as that. Your travel preferences mean the service shouldn’t exist at all?

Seems you have a problem with reading comprehension. Where did I say I use airbnb? Never have and never will and I don’t want to live in a neighborhood where the house next door is a hotel bringing in strange people.

I want AirBNB done away with! It’s a dangerous practice! Bringing total strangers into a neighborhood is just asking for problems. I really don’t understand why people would even want total strangers occupying their houses for any length of time. Friends in San Francisco, who have signed up for this, now regret it. In some instances, one guy rents the place and then brings in several of his buddies. Trashes the place!

I would have a really hard time with neighbors who got into this.

How noble of Airbnb. And just how are they going to enforce their “ban” when their customers lie about the rentals?

What!? AIRbnb renters lie?!

If I wanted to live next door to a hotel, I’d buy a house there. One of our neighbors started this and we got right on him. He sold his house and moved elsewhere. Good riddance!
