World of Discovery “Picnic in the Park” a Success

by ECT

Nearly 8 months ago, Oakley celebrated with a ribbon cutting for the first all-abilities playground in East Contra Costa County. Yesterday, Oakley had a chance to enjoy the park with many activities for children to do while playing side-by-side, regardless of physical or developmental needs with it’s first annual “Picnic in the Park” at World of Discovery at Crockett Park.

The event provided a nice atmosphere for parents and many activities for children such as a clown, face painting, arts and crafts and of course a world class playground with kids to play with. The City provided some snacks and drinks for attendees.  Here are a few pictures I took of the event.

The idea of a picnic had been planned since the opening of the park.

“Several families in the community recommended to the City that there be an event every 6 months (or so) to draw families and people to the World of Discovery Playground where they would meet others in the community,” explained Janet Frazier.  “For this first event, we thought it would be nice for families to have an ‘old fashioned’ picnic lunch with their families where their children could play and the parents meet other parents.”

great job Jim and Janet Frazier for this park. You coordinated the creation of something beautiful for the community and I love the idea of a picnic every six months.
