Westbound Highway Re-Opens in Antioch After Vehicle Crash Injures 14

A vehicle crash Saturday evening on Highway 4 has injured 14-people and closed all lanes on Highway 4 in the westbound direction according to the California Highway Patrol.

According to CHP, the traffic accident occurred at 6:18 pm involving at least 4-vehicles near the A Street exit.

The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District stated that the incident command requested 5 ground ambulances and 4 medical helicopters.

As of 7:47 pm, CHP announced all lanes were open and cancelled the SIGALERT.

HWY 4 has turned into the autobahn. CHP are almost nonexsistant since construction ended. People drive as fast and reckless as they want. Changing lanes on bumpers & tailgating is the norm. If u r doing 70 in the slow lane u r still driving too slow.

Ironic since the autobahn is actually safer than US freeways. It’s because in Europe they emphasize passing lanes. People clog up the passing (left) lane and stay in it when you’re supposed to get in it only to go into the right lanes once you pass. Coupled with the fact that no one uses turn signals anymore it’s a recipe for disaster.

what is the actual speed limit for hwy 4 ? has anyone noticed that ALL speed limit signs have been removed from oakley to bay point . It used to say “end 55 speed limit ” after u would pass somersville near the car dealerships but that sign is removed too.

I heard a chopper right over our house and he was flying so low that our cats went bonkers! Then the rescue helicopters flew in. People have been driving so fast that I’m surprised more such crashes don’t occur. It’s total insanity. Two of my friends were in crashes within weeks of each other. One got rear-ended on I-680 by the North Main Street exit in Walnut creek. This made the person spin out and move over 4 lanes hitting cars driving at high speeds. My friend’s car was totaled. He’s lucky to be alive! There must be some control over how fast someone can drive. They are going 80 mph+ without a care in the world. This has to stop!
