Warriors Raffle Fundraiser Cancelled After State Law Technicality

by ECT

Dear Community:

Today, I tried to do something positive for two Golden State Warrior fans in an effort give them a once in a lifetime opportunity to attend Game 7 of the NBA Finals on Father’s Day while trying to raise funds for the Leo Fontana Foundation.

Based on a technicality of State Law, the raffle has stopped and there can be no winner. All funds will be returned to individuals who participated. Under the law, I could not host the raffle or utilize the internet. This had to be done in person and by the foundation from the start of the process.

This was brought to my attention early this afternoon and upon consultation it was best to stop the fundraiser and begin to work on refunds. Each person who purchased a raffle ticket will receive an email by me in the next day or so trying to arrange a refund. If you would like to make the donation in lieu of a refund, I will deposit those funds into the Leo Fontana Foundation directly.

I would like to take this opportunity to apologize as I did not mean any harm or intentionally try and skirt state laws, I simply was trying to do something positive for a local non-profit in my community and Warriors fans. I had the best intentions at heart and really thought this could be something positive for everyone involved.

Once again, it proves no good deed goes unpunished.

If you would like your refund or would like funds donated directly to Leo Fontana Foundation, please contact me at (925) 250-0400 or email  [email protected] .

I agree with Rich, you tried to do good and help your community. I think it shows guts that you were made aware of an issue and corrected it. I don’t think an apology was needed but shows me you are a leader. I think our state should fix this law since everything is going over the internet anyway.

Thank you for trying, Mr. Turnage! It was a nice thing to do. A pox upon the stinkers who stopped you.

2 tickets for $2,000+ each? I’m a sports fan and all but some people need a reality check, those pros don’t give a damn about you. If you want to help the community, give that money to youth sports for kids that can’t afford to play with their peers. Not for fans to live a fantasy.

WWHD? What would Hillary do?

Well, glad you returned the money.

Thanks for doing the right thing and following the Law.
