Vallejo Launching Campaign to Criminally Prosecute Illegal Dumping Violations

by ECT
Vallejo, CA – The City of Vallejo is officially launching a campaign to criminally prosecute illegal dumping violations as authorized under the newly amended Ordinance amending Vallejo Municipal Code Section 7.44.100.
Every year, on average, approximately 1.4 million pounds of refuse is unlawfully dumped onto public streets, alleys and lots costing taxpayers an estimated $650,000 annually, and on the rise! In an effort to deter and discourage illegal dumping, the City of Vallejo has pledged to aggressively and proactively prosecute those responsible in a criminal court of law. Illegal dumping is a misdemeanor offense and carries a penalty of up to six months in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.
This initiative is an interdepartmental endeavor to include the Vallejo Police Department’s Code Enforcement Division, Public Works Department and the City Attorney’s Office. Recently, the Vallejo City Council authorized the hiring of a new Code Enforcement Officer exclusively tasked with investigating illegal dumping cases and making recommendations to the City Attorney’s Office for criminal prosecution.
To learn more about the City’s endeavor, the community is invited to attend the Illegal Dumping Kickoff event on March 14, 2018, at the Joseph Room of the JFK Library at 6:00 PM located at 505 Santa Clara Street. Refreshments to be provided. Additional information about the program can be reviewed here cityofvallejo.net/IllegalDumping.

I hope this also applies to homeless people. Everyone needs to be accountable.

And every car that throws trash out of the window. See it way too often in Vallejo and it’s always the same people.

That and recology recycling trucks which shed garbage all over the place on the way back to the depot.
