Update: Wanted Dangerous Fugitive Shot by Antioch Police Dies

by ECT

The Antioch Police Department announced that Lloyd Harris Jr, a dangerous fugitive wanted by multiple agencies, died after being shot by officers Thursday night.

The incident occurred just after 5:15 pm Thursday when members of the Antioch Police Department saw Lloyd Harris Jr., 40,  driving a car on Golf Course Road near Lone Tree Way.

The officers recognized Harris and knew that he had a federal warrant for his arrest, which listed him as “armed and dangerous.” Harris was also wanted in connection with a recent felony assault that happened in another Bay Area law enforcement jurisdiction.

In addition to the above mentioned information, Harris was known to the officers as a person of interest from a previous Antioch homicide case.

Harris was contacted by several officers in an effort to take him into custody. Harris did not comply with the officers’ commands. During this contact, one Antioch officer discharged his duty weapon striking Harris.

Afterwards, lifesaving measures were immediately taken and Harris was transported to a local area hospital. While at the hospital, Harris succumbed to his injuries.

The event activated the Law Enforcement Involved Fatal Incident (LEIFI) protocol. Members of the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office responded to the City of Antioch to begin an investigation assisted by Antioch detectives. Technicians from the Contra Costa County Crime Lab also responded to process the scene.

A realistic looking, full-sized firearm was recovered from the ground where Harris was removed. Upon later examination, the item was determined to be a BB gun. The firearm fell to the ground from Harris’ waist when he was removed from the vehicle.

No officers were injured during this incident. The officer that discharged his firearm is a ten year veteran of the Antioch Police Department that is currently assigned to the Investigations Bureau.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Antioch Police Department non emergency line at (925)778-2441. You may also text-a-tip to 274637 (CRIMES) using the key word ANTIOCH.

Simonpure Feb 9, 2018 - 2:00 pm

News stations saying he reached for something…turns out to be a replica and only a BB gun. Sounds like suicide by police too me.

Christine Feb 9, 2018 - 2:28 pm

I just read an article saying that police use plastic fake guns to plant on victims after they shot them to justify their shooting. It seems like this could very well be the case. I’m like, how you see a fake gun in someone’s waist while they were sitting in a car ?, and if all those cops were there why shoot? I’m so tired of all these officers shooting to kill ??

Nick Feb 9, 2018 - 3:57 pm

LE shoots to kill when they have a reason to. Good riddance.

Captain obvious Feb 9, 2018 - 4:03 pm

That is an uneducated and ignorant statement

Melanie Feb 9, 2018 - 4:49 pm

The uneducated and ignorant one is captain obvious. Ghetto mentality.

ONIWY Feb 9, 2018 - 4:43 pm

Very grateful that no law enforcement officers were harmed, and that no members of the public suffered. APD deserves a lot of credit.

Melanie Feb 9, 2018 - 4:48 pm

As long as no officers were harmed, I have no problem with this. This scumbag had it coming.

Glad APD went home safe. Thank You for all you do.

Nikkol Feb 9, 2018 - 7:23 pm

I’d you’re going to carry an item that resembles a gun, be prepared to be shot, especially if you 1. Are a felon who shouldn’t be carrying anyway 2. Are wanted and known to be armed and dangerous and 3. Come into police contact and fail to obey their commands. You’re own stupidity will get you killed. Leave the toys at home, assclown.

Concerned Citizen Feb 9, 2018 - 7:40 pm

Thank you APD! Please disregard the leaches that have come out supporting someone who obviously was far from a decent, contributing member of society. Glad all of the officers made it home safe to see their families yesterday, not to mention all of the citizens that will continue to make it home safe to see their families with this piece of trash of the streets. APD ROCKS! Thin Blue Line

Mike Feb 9, 2018 - 8:14 pm

Glad the police were not injured. Good job disposing of this turd!!!

Mike Feb 9, 2018 - 11:27 pm

These scumbags don’t realize more and more Antioch residents are picking up the phone and calling APD.

wake up people! Feb 10, 2018 - 12:18 am

I’m with Christine. People need to wake up and see yhat so many of these incidents don’t go down like these newspapers always say. Dont people notice how they always write something really bad about everyone they shoot and killl to quickly “justify” their trigger happy stupid mistakes? They are out there murdering people left and right who DON’T have it coming, yet these ignorant people are always saying “Good job, APD!” Gimme a break! It’s either a cop saying it or someone who happens to be one of the few people lucky enough that APD hasn’t killed or injured someone in their family. Keep patting them on the back for murdering people who don’t deserve to die. All I can say is, “Wait til it happens to you or someome in your family.” DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH ON APD. It doesn’t take a genius to see they are always covering up their dirty methods. And go ahead and talk shit to me and about me. I couldn’t care less what you think! I speak the truth!

Genevieve mann Feb 11, 2018 - 11:09 pm

It was a crowded gas station with plenty of witnesses so perhaps you should do a little research. I am 100 percent on the side of the police officers Antioch’s, Pittsburgh, Brentwood, Oakland I don’t care what city they are protecting. Are all people perfect? No they aren’t, but to think police just run around shooting people just because is paranoid and irrational. This wanted felon had many opportunities to make better life choices than he did. He obviously made the wrong ones on multiple occasions but when officers tell you to stop YOU STOP! They fired bean bags first for goodness sakes and he still didn’t obey them and stop. I am truly sorry that someone is dead and their family is suffering because of their actions. I am even more sorry that someone who took an oath to serve and protect was FORCED to take that life and live with the consequences for the rest of their life. You can not help but think that someone who takes an oath and dedicates their lives to protect others values human life a little differently than someone who carries a weapon and commits crimes for a living. Personally I know who I have a higher regard and respect for and I am darn glad all our officers came home safe that night. @antiochpilicedepartment thank you for keeping my neighborhood safe!

Lola Saavedra Feb 12, 2018 - 1:05 am

You wouldn’t know “the truth” if it hit you up alongside the head with a 2 X 4! You obviously don’t know the definition of MURDER! Study up on it! It’s obvious that the police did not “plant” the fake gun like Christine says! They discovered it AFTER the shot this POS! He was a fugitive from the law and a lot of agencies ere looking for him. Thank God the officers were not injured!

Nick Feb 12, 2018 - 8:41 am

IF YOU COMPLY WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT, YOU WON’T GET SHOT. PERIOD.

Antioch Rocks! Feb 12, 2018 - 10:43 pm

This felon was a POS! Good job APD. No sympathy whatsoever.

Jack Feb 10, 2018 - 7:14 am

Surrender peacefully or suffer the consequences. Had this been an AA, they would be rioting right now. Glad the officer is okay.

Dmitri Feb 10, 2018 - 5:58 pm

Actually Jack, people have rioted when it’s an UNARMED “AA” without histories of violent felonies on their record. But nice try in evoking racial tension.

Janet Burke Feb 10, 2018 - 12:05 pm

The American justice system and health system are pretty similar. Where one throws expensive drugs at illness, one throws expensive sentences and punishments at crime. Does this actually eradicate the problem? Of course not. When will we as a society look upstream like the more advanced countries instead of the one with the sickest, fattest, and most imprisoned in the industrialized world.

No excuses Feb 10, 2018 - 6:08 pm

Jack you’re absolutely right! But most ignorant people don’t know what AA is. So just keep it real and say “if this pos was a Black Guy, then they would be rioting right now all over the Bay! Most people also don’t know that the highest percentage of people killed by LE across the nation are actually white. Google it.

Nick Feb 10, 2018 - 9:07 pm

White people don’t make a big deal out of it. Everything is a racial issue to the black community. It gets old. Whatever happened to personal responsibility and accountability for your actions.

Lib Destroyer Feb 10, 2018 - 11:36 pm

Google spies on those who use it and tracks your movements. I prefer using DuckDuckGo or Bing for that very reason. Also, some of the information on Google has errors.

BG Feb 11, 2018 - 9:02 pm

Lib destroyer you sound like Alex Jones. Question: if being liberal makes you a “libtard”, does being a republican make you a… “retard”?

dawn Feb 13, 2018 - 1:09 am

Lib Destroyer, I do not use GOOGLE for research! I have found way too many errors there and even one of their founders told me that they cannot double-check everything they are sent. Google indeed spies on people and that’s why I do my research using Bing.

Jim Feb 13, 2018 - 7:47 pm

Dawn, it’s called “Google Scholar”. That’s how you find scholarly articles, peer-reviewed journals, etc. I hope you guys are teenagers, because if you’re grown and don’t know how to find reputable sources, that’s sad. Seriously google is spying, but Microsoft (Bing) isn’t? Go back to Alabama and stay off the moonshine honey.

Jim Feb 11, 2018 - 5:32 pm

Well yea because white people make up a higher overall number of the population. Just like the majority of welfare recipients are white. And it’s understandable why black folks make lots of things about race, because of the history of our country. Discriminatory legislation was everywhere from housing, employment, resource allocation, education, etc. only mere generations ago. Just because you never firsthand witnessed it doesn’t mean it’s not there. Racism will never go away and unfortunately there are individuals in power, like police, that can be racist and thusly act on their predispositions Nick.

Nick Feb 11, 2018 - 9:15 pm

Hispanics, Asians, Native Americans, etc. deal with racism and they don’t act like the black community. It’s not racism – it’s the way they choose to act. The truth hurts.

dawn Feb 13, 2018 - 1:11 am

Nick — What race are “Hispanics?”

Nick Feb 13, 2018 - 9:24 am

I know – Hispanic isn’t a race. I guess anyone but a “white Hispanic” (someone from Spain) would face racial discrimination.

Kiss my ass Feb 11, 2018 - 9:27 am

My cousin was no snitch let’s get that clear he has never owned or had a gun on him ever, if you look at all the stories that Antioch pd claimed he was reaching for a gun yet after they shot him how many times was a gun mentioned until after they said fell from his waist he was killed by a gang member called Antioch PD

Kiss my ass Feb 11, 2018 - 10:22 am

Let’s look at Joseph yes he got into trouble did his time, he just started a company and got his contractor license. He was turning his life around and one must ask did he deserve to die because of his past guess Antioch pd thought so oh they said we arrest him but instead took his life well miss you buckey Rest In Peace

Question Everything Feb 11, 2018 - 10:46 pm

I was shocked at how the police and media immediately portrayed Joe as a monster basically who had to be put down for the good of the public. Hopefully somebody in the media will look at the real story. This was a good man with a huge heart who absolutely was turning his life around. Definitely a stand up guy… who would do anything for a friend. They made a big deal of what he did in 2013. This is 2018. person of interest BS. all innuendo . did he miss court that violated parole/probation? idk. I’m sure it could have been taken care of in a better way than surrounding him with multiple police ready to shoot. He was not hiding. He lived opening in Antioch and caused no trouble. How about just knocking on his door. Armed and dangerous? What a load of crap to rationalize killing someone. Not armed and not dangerous. Just trying to live his life and stay out of trouble.

Melanie Feb 12, 2018 - 10:56 pm

He was a POS. Deal with it.

Me Feb 13, 2018 - 1:35 am

As far as the APD goes they are the lowest of low they lied about just everything they said. Harris didn’t have a chance they were set out to kill him it was cool blooded murder and that a fact. The only thing that Harris was wanted for by the federal court was missing a pee test oh boy that really armed and dangerous bull shit that something the assholes from APD made up so they could cover there ass , but guess what anyone with a drain instead of a big fat mouth could have known that. You need to open your eyes dummy

Green eyes Feb 12, 2018 - 7:47 pm

Way to go APD, my fucking ass, they’re so shady and yes they do just go around shooting people , I’m so sick and tired of these cops being so trigger happy, and you guys are congratulating them for committing murder. And you people think you’re fucking perfect and that you people don’t have any skeletons in your closet ? Ok all you
LA-TEE-DAAAAS , you perfect law obeying citicenzs I’m pretty sure Bucky Joe’s relatives , friends don’t want to hear all the hatred and negativity , have respect for them. Rest in peace Bucky Joe

Mike Feb 13, 2018 - 1:15 pm

Poor Poor Bucky Joe !!!!!!!!!!!!
All he had to do was follow the police officers orders. He didn’t and got himself killed. No sympathy for this POS or all the morons crying boo hoo over this!!
He got what he had coming!!
Thank you Antioch PD for keeping this animal from committing more crimes!!

A sad friend Feb 14, 2018 - 12:02 am

I guess its not important that my friend was not only a property owner and a tax payer but a person who cared about people especially people who didnt have and were homeless. Thats right he gave the less fortunate a chance when no one else would. He fed the homeless clothed them and gave them work with hope to make life a little brighter for them. RIP My good friend Joe. You were one of my closest friends and i miss you so much. Sending my respect to his Mother and Father who are also wonderful people and his beautiful children .. His other half ..and his baby mama.. And the rest of his fam bam.. God bless you all.

Amy smith Feb 14, 2018 - 7:56 am

May you rest in peace Joey, he was the person that was trying to change his life, and nobody’s perfect, and he didn’t deserve to be shot,!!

Word From The Wise Feb 15, 2018 - 1:08 pm

It sadness me to see all the disrespectful comments and name calling-
Whatever happened to -if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all? This person has Family, an elderly Mother and Father that loved him regardless of what you think or what you believe to be true.
If you believe everything you read, you are foolish –
Show some respect-

Nick Feb 15, 2018 - 6:47 pm

Respect is like trust – it has to be earned. If I was a grieving family member, I wouldn’t be reading comments on the internet. As far as the mother – she raised the POS.

As far as those who say he didn’t deserve to be shot. HE FAILED TO COMPLY WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT. IF YOU DON’T COMPLY – YOU WILL BE SHOT. WHAT PART OF COMPLY DON’T YOU UNDERSTAND?

Sometimes you have to shout to wake people up.

Word From The Wise Feb 16, 2018 - 10:10 am

I dont know what age Nick is but he is pathetic, perhaps Nick should do some research on things. Was Nick there at the scene? How does Nick know the individual did not comply? Oh because he read so, that is not what witness are saying.. and Nick go back and get an education, perhaps you should wake up, hopefully this never happens to anyone in your family because if you think our justice system is honest then your not very intelligent, however by your name calling abilities that is more than obvious.
This individual got into trouble back in 2013 and served time for what he did, recently was he received his Contracting License and was Bonded, now if he was this BIG Felon that could have never happened, so Nick and all you other judgmental foolish people that believe every thing you read ..find something else to do and stop encouraging Bulling as he does have children..this is far from over..

Nick Feb 16, 2018 - 10:35 am

I read it in the article – you moron. You lowlifes defending this POS are PATHETIC. My family members are law abiding citizens, not wanted for felony assault or a person of interest in a HOMICIDE.

Nick Feb 16, 2018 - 1:22 pm

I agree with Nick. If you come on a public blog defending someone like this, you will get slammed. This guy has no one to blame but himself. Good riddance…

Douchey McGee Feb 16, 2018 - 6:27 pm

I agree with both Nicks. Sounds like great minds think alike.

Darlene Vieira Feb 22, 2018 - 2:29 am

I seriously think that when anyone glorify a” well done job” by taking a mans life really needs to examine themselves. Has society really drifted SO FAR AWAY FROM WHAT IS RIGHT AND WRONG, Was THIS MANS LIFE NOT WORTH MORE?AND TO HEAR THE ugly COMMENTS I HAVE READ ON LLOYD HARRIS JR. TELLS ME HOW FAR WE ARE FROM THE L;OVE OF GOD. THese crazy actions OF the cops TAkeing THIS MANS LIFE IS not ok . . THIS MAN LLOYD HARRIS JR. WAS & IS A FRIEND OF MINE & IT PAINS ME TO kNOW THAT MY FRIEND WAS TOOkEN AWAY FROM ME & MANY OTHERS IN A violent WAY. HE WAS A MAN, A SON , A DAD, AND A FRIEND TO MANY. HE HAD WONDERFUL LOVING PARENTS, HE WAS WAY SMART, MORE SMARTER THAN THE AVERAGE BEAR, HE WAS REASONABLE & FAIR TO most. Lloyd HARRIS DID NOT DESERVE TO BE SHOT & kILLED ON THAT FATAL DAY, SO I ASk WHY WAS MY FRIEND SO BRUTLY SHOT DOWN & kILLED? hE DIDNT RUN, HE DIDNT THREATEN ANYONE, HE DIDNT BRANDISH A WEAPON, HE DIDNT FIGHT OR HURT ANYONE THAT DAY, THEN TELL ME SOMEONE WHAT THE FU-k, WHY DID THE POLICE kILLed HIM? I NEED ANSWERS, NOT ” GOOD JOB TO THE POLICE FOR kILLING THIS MAN.” A BETTER WAY OF DEALING WITH YOUR COMMENTS on THE MATTER WOULD go So METHING LIkE THIS…….THAT FATEFUL DAY FOR LLOYD HARRIS JR. SHOULD OF BEEN HANDLED AS ONE OF PATIENCE,UNDERSTANDING,COMPASSION,TO NEGOTIATE THIS MAN BACk INTO CUSTODY. & THE PEOPLE OF ANTIIOCH WOULD OF MORALLY SUPPORTED SUCH AN ATTEMPT OF CHOOSING A BETTER OUT COME FOR EVERYONE ON THAT DAY. iF THAT WOULD BE THE CASE THEN TODAY LlOYD HARRIS jR. WOULD BE ALIVE & HIS FAMILY WOULD NOT BE GRIEVING OVER THE DEATH OF THERE SON & HIS CHILDREN WOULD HAVE THEIR DAD & i WOULD STILL HAVE MY FRIEND LlOYD HARRIS jR. BETTER kNOWN AS BUCkY JOE. MAY HE REST NOW AND AWAkE TO HIS NEW LIFE ON THE OTHER SIDE
