Just after 2:30 this afternoon, Pittsburg Police Officers attempted to stop the driver of a vehicle on Hillview Drive.  The driver failed to yield and led officers on a short vehicle pursuit.  The driver and sole occupant then fled on foot from the vehicle into a residence in the 4200 block of Hillview Drive, through a partially open garage door.

According to Captain Ron Raman, Officers gave chase and were able to catch up to the suspect inside of the residence.  The suspect actively fought with Officers for several minutes as they attempted to apprehend him.  The suspect also bit one Officer in the hand causing his skin to tear.

Captain Raman stated that officers did deploy a taser at the suspect; however this did not have any effect on him and he continued to actively resist officers. Additional Officers arrived on scene and they were able to handcuff the suspect.

He explained via a press release that moments later, the suspect became unresponsive. Officers began performing CPR and were able to resuscitate the suspect.  He was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.  It is unknown at this point what, if any, medical condition(s) the suspect had.  The suspect has previously lived at the address on Hillview Drive and knew the current residents.

Raman said the suspect is a 32 year old male with an extensive criminal history to include Terrorist Threats, Assault with a firearm, domestic violence, sales and transportation of illegal drugs and has served time in prison. The suspect was on active probation and had an outstanding no bail warrant felony for his arrest for drug related charges.

This incident is jointly being investigated with the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office. This is an active ongoing investigation, more information will be provided as it becomes available via email.  No additional information will be available tonight.

People like you read an article and quickly come to a conclusion without thinking twice about the validity of the information that the author of this article received. Somebody lost their life. They must have family that are in grief. But you’re sure that this guy was scum and didn’t deserve to live. It’s scary that there are so many idiots like you on this earth.

Justice has been done!

It’s not too difficult…first the police ask you, if you don’t comply, then they tell you, if you still don’t do as you’re asked, then they make you. If you get to the point the police must force you to comply with their request, and then are still stupid enough to run or fight back, you are very likely to get injured or worse. All one has to do is pull over and stop one’s vehicle, and peacefully do what the police officer asks. Ron Raman would still be alive had he done so. So why do we blame the police? Thank God for the police!

Joan Jul 27, 2016 - 3:31 pm

He would still be alive if he did not have out standing warrant, flee from PPd resist arrest and assault an officer., When will people learn if you do not comply if you do not follow instruction of PD it WILL end badly. Sounds like he has family and friends who love him. I wish he had made better choices. As far as this going down with a child at the home, he chose that house, he chose to bring the drama into that house.

Old Pittsburg/Antioch Hwy Border Jul 29, 2016 - 7:04 am

Yes Joan, it is the choices he made while living the life. I know, without a doubt, his family was helping him to make better choices. Unfortunately, his poor choices in the past caught up with him and his poor choices that day led to his death. Stay true to the uniform PPD. No cover ups. I will not approve of such poor behavior.

God says tha”‘ll shall not kill.

Mick Jul 27, 2016 - 3:48 pm

Police misconduct, maybe he’s afraid of the police because of all of the news article saying how they kill people like David Lopez and Charles Burns. I know you start the job trying to do the right thing, not all cops are bad but to all the scum bag police that abuse the power behind a badge, then they’ll have to answer to God it’s in his hands now.

Dennis O'shia Jul 27, 2016 - 11:42 pm

I am truly sorry for the family for the loss of life but the man that died was in the wrong he led officers on a chase that endangered innocent people and then choose to act in an unlawful manner but he choose his own fate he could have simply listened to the officers and faced his Warrant like a man and he would still be alive the problem everyone will blame the police for this but the truth of the matter is a man lost his life from a poor decision he choose to make he did not deserve to die but he should have just complied sad for all involved it is not for us to judge god will sort this out my prayers to the family for there loss and for the officer that has to live the rest of his life knowing he killed another human being

Nick Jul 28, 2016 - 7:06 pm

That is the longest sentence I’ve ever read. Nine lines for one sentence?

WTG Jul 28, 2016 - 3:30 am

why was all the adults in the garage and the 7 year old left alone in the house? SMH

Joan Jul 28, 2016 - 4:06 am

When will the criminals learn when you run from PD when you fight with PD when you resist and assault PD IT WILL NOT END WELL FOR YOU, Then they try to put blame on PD. Go straight to hell life as criminals then your family and friends want to blame PD, This young man lost his life because of HIS choices.

Normal Person Jul 28, 2016 - 9:03 am

JohnnieQuick why are you so upset? Im sure you have a whole herd of loser, wanna be thug friends. Im sure you can all gather on a street corner somewhere and ” pour one out for your homey” and smoke some dope to make it all better!! Just dont be late for your life long job at Claim Jumper! LOL
This is entertaining!!

Johnnie Quick Jul 28, 2016 - 4:56 pm

You people are miserable. Go get a life and quit hating. I dont care what anybody thinks about me, you are nothing to me. I just care about my friend Beto and that his family gets the truth and he can rest at peace!

Johnnie Quick Jul 28, 2016 - 5:00 pm

And Im a normal person too. A single mother, that works. I have a variety of friends that I care about… SMH U people are to much….

Highwayman Jul 28, 2016 - 10:05 am

A Tragic incident for all involved, that easily could have been prevented. The cops just doing a job that gets tougher every day. The family that suffers the loss and of course the suspect that made a poor choice and triggered his own demise. The coroner will make a finding, a coroner’s inquest will follow and the DA will rule. Excited delirium, drug – alcohol impairment coupled with an all out struggle has had the same outcome in numerous previous cases. Obey the law, take responsibility for your actions and don’t run from police.

g0tgot Jul 28, 2016 - 10:10 am

If he was black we would probably have riots and BLM blocking the streets…..

Nick Jul 28, 2016 - 1:15 pm

Quit fighting with the police and you won’t end up dead. He has no one to blame but himself. The truth hurts.

Melissa Jul 28, 2016 - 8:49 pm

No loss of life is ever a good thing but if we are going to fix the problem we have to be honest with each other. I recognize a lot of names on here (many of you with lock down time) that were friends of Beto and my heart goes out to you. But you have to keep it 100. He just wasn’t a good person. Yes he may have had a job but that by no means makes you good. All the things he did to Joanna? Shooting at her in the car? Jacking the little homies in Shore Acres?? He chose to live his life the way he did and ultimately it cost him his life. The cops didn’t make him flee in a car, flee on foot, resist arrest. etc. I’ll bet anyone $100 the autopsy will show crystal in his system.

Did the cops do everything perfect? Who knows but one thing is for sure….. if he simply pulled over like a good human being he would still be alive today. Mic drop!

Nobody is happy to lose a loved one but you have to place blame where it belongs.

sum days Jul 29, 2016 - 3:27 pm

Very well put. Everyone needs to read that comment & comprehend it!

Phule Me Twice Jul 29, 2016 - 5:02 pm

I agree with Sum Days…very well put.

I have to say that I do feel sorry for the cops as well as the dead guy’s family. The cops now have to live with the fact that they had a part in killing somebody. Whether they’re at fault or not, they’re going to be thinking about it every day. For the most part the guys in blue are stand-up and trying to do the right thing…it’s not easy these days.
