Update: GoFundMe Started for Family of Freedom High Student Who Died in ATV Accident

by ECT

A GoFundMe page has been created to assist the family of Freedom High School student Kelsey Martinez who died over weekend in an ATV accident.

The accident occurred out of the area.

The page was launched by Wendy Thigpen and reads:

Over the weekend the Martinez family lost their daughter Kelsey Martinez in an ATV accident. Kelsey was a senior at Freedom High School, she was a daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, girlfriend and friend. Anyone who knows the Martinez family knows they are the most kind, loving and giving people one could ever hope to meet.

To help support the Martinez family during this time we want to off set any expenses that arise so they can focus on healing as a family and not finances.

Please consider donating to this wonderful family during this difficult time. Thank you.

On Sunday, Freedom High School Principal Kelly Manke released a letter Sunday saying that a Freedom High School student has died in an accident over the weekend.

Manke informed parents that Freedom High School has a Crisis Intervention Team that will be available for students, parents, and school personnel as well as grief counseling. She also advised that in the event a child is overwhelmed by sadness at home and needs additional support, the Contra Costa Crisis Center (925) 939-1916 or 800-273-Talk (255) is a valuable resource.

Although details were not released or confirmed, rumblings on social media said the fatal accident involved an ATV while another student was taken to the hospital.

Heartbreaking. So many young kids have passed in our little community in the last few months. Very, very sad. Prayers to all who love these kids.
