At 7:33 pm Monday, a 3-year-old was struck by a vehicle in the 2600 block of Somersville Road in the City of Antioch.

The incident occurred near the Sears Building off Somersville Road and Delta Fair Road where it was reported the 3-year-old was not breathing and a citizen was in CPR.

I have almost been run over in various parking lots in Pittsburg and Antioch at least a dozen times and most of those times it’s been broad daylight, some people feel the need for speed every second they are behind the wheel, it’s just crazy, on the other hand I have really come close to hitting pedestrians at night because they are wearing dark clothing and not using cross walks, everybody needs to make an effort to be more safe in what they do. I’m sure this was a tragic accident but both the driver and the pedestrian with the child could have probably avoided this by making better choices. We all need to be more considerate in the ever shrinking crowded space we share.

How bad are the parents injury? There is no way a three year old is walking across a parking lot by there self without someone holding there hand

Feel terrible for the family.

Short of her just suddenly jumping out in the path of the vehicle from a hidden spot preventing the driver from stopping in time, the accident should’ve never happened. There’s so many people who are not bad people, but do have zero basic situational awareness while driving. And there is those who are just straight up A holes and speed speed speed, text text text, talk talk talk everywhere when behind the wheel. Parking lots is where you need to be extra focused and cautious. And the parking lots is a ghost town on all sides! WTH

Where were the parents? A 3 year old should have been either holding a parents hand, or in a cart or the parents arms. Were the parents struck as well? There is no mention. I am sure the driver is devastated. It is nearly impossible for a driver to see a very small child. It is irksome how many young kids under the age of 5, I see running in the roads or parking lots. Parents need to take more care of their children. Get off the phone or whatever other distractiin they have going on, and take care of their number one priority.

Three year olds can get away from supervision, especially if the adult is dealing with other kids. This is a horrid event that probably has both driver and parents feeling responsible. No one wants to hurt a child like this. It’s called an accident for a reason. I pray for both the child’s family and the drivers. May they all be comforted in the moment and learn to release the pain over time.

If you really think it through, there is no such thing as an “accident.”

Moral of the story….watch your kids and not your phone.

My prayers to the family. I witnessed too many times young children on cell phones trailing parents in parking lots. We do not know that this happened in this case, but after reading the article I wondered why I have not read more tragedies such as this death.
