HEAD ON COLLISION this Afternoon on VASCO Road TURNS FATAL

This afternoon at about 2:22pm, Contra Costa CHP was advised of a head on collision on Vasco Road, just south of Walnut Blvd, which catapulted one vehicle off the roadway and into a field, which subsequently became fully engulfed in flames and caused major injuries.

A 17yr old girl from Petaluma suffered major injuries and was transported by helicopter to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek but later died at 3:37pm. The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Coroners Office will be handling the release of identity of the deceased.

In the initial investigation, it appears that a 2016 Jeep Compass, driven by a 20yr old male from San Francisco, was traveling northbound on Vasco Road. The driver decided to pass traffic in his lane and crossed over the broken yellow line to do so and entered southbound traffic. At that exact moment, a man was driving his Tow Truck within the southbound lane of Vasco Road.

As the Jeep entered the opposing lane, he placed the Jeep directly in front of the Tow Truck and the two vehicles collided head on.

The Jeep was catapulted off the roadway and into the grass field just off the roadway and became fully engulfed in flames. The Tow Truck remained on the road but disabled and blocked the entire road. Due to the location and severity of injuries, a helicopter transport was called in.

The male Tow Truck driver (& sole occupant) only had minor complaints of pain. The Jeeps’ 17yr old front right passenger suffered major injuries and was life flighted to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek. The 21yr old rear passenger (from San Francisco) suffered major injuries and was also life flighted but to Eden Hospital and has non-life threatening injuries. Tragically the 17yr old girl died while at the hospital due to her injuries from the collision.

Alcohol or drugs are not a factor in this collision but it is still under investigation. If anyone witnessed it or the events leading up to it, please contact Contra Costa CHP in Martinez, (925) 646-4980. Thank you.

So incredibly sad.

Very very sad. Do not pass in oncoming traffic lane. Leave early and drive safe.

“Alcohol or drugs are not a factor in this collision but it is still under investigation”- yea right. We all know marijuana caused the crash. It is the cause of every single car crash since cars were invented.

John Jun 5, 2018 - 9:23 am

We will never know if there was marihuana involved. Because it would be against liberal policy that marihuana does any bad.

George Jun 5, 2018 - 9:45 am

No, like I said, it’s the cause of every single car crash ever known to mankind. We should outlaw makeup as well because women apply it while driving which is dangerous, they must be under the influence of marijuana. Then next, outlaw food and music, because those are distractions while driving as well. But mainly marijuana. Drinking alcohol and driving should instead be a requirement since we all know it’s safe and marijuana is the real one to blame for all these crashes.

So what happened to the driver that caused the accident? It would seem that he would be in bad shape, but with the way these things go. he probably walked away from the accident. The double yellow line is there for a reason, dummy. And it sound like he just blindly tried to pass, since the tow truck was right there when he pulled out.

Things like this happen because of laws on vasco arent strict enough simple as that people drive 80 when its clearly 50 to 55 due to wind single lane but no. No one cares about others double fine zone needs to be in affect fully no excuses signs show the speed and big sign says double fine please lets see more chp doing something or sherrif catch these law breakers

I was driving out to Stockton on 4 a few weeks ago, and was stunned by the risks people are willing to take, not to really get anywhere faster, but seemingly to get ahead of just one car. This happenned like 4 times on that drive, with one time me pulling partially off the road to help insure the passer made it back into his lane safely. Possibly they shaved a minute off their time? Incredibly risky. What a shame. To end a life to gain seconds.

I realized more something totally new on this weight reduction issue. One particular issue is that good nutrition is very vital while dieting. A massive reduction in bad foods, sugary ingredients, fried foods, sweet foods, beef, and whitened flour products may be necessary. Having wastes organisms, and contaminants may prevent desired goals for losing belly fat. While a number of drugs momentarily solve the issue, the nasty side effects aren’t worth it, and in addition they never offer more than a non permanent solution. It’s a known undeniable fact that 95 of fad diet plans fail. Thank you for sharing your notions on this blog.
