July 4 was expected to be busy and it did not disappoint as calls began coming in quickly shortly after dark. We kept score as East County managed 34-calls for service during the festivities.

Below is an unofficial tally for calls for service from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District and the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District for fire service related calls only.  The log includes only East County—meaning from Bay Point out to Brentwood. It’s important to remember, ConFire was fighting several larger fires just over the hill.  There was also several medical and fire alarm calls that were NOT included in this count.

Kudos to both fire and police for trying to keep the peace!

Nice info, but that is about 34 calls to many.

This is misleading as its only fire responses, fire districts responded to many other types of calls such as medical responses, fire alarms, traffic accidents and other calls for assistance with PD. This 34 calls do not tell the entire story of last night

Happily living in Antioch, NOT... Jul 5, 2013 - 8:28 am

We have a whole bunch of the laws don’t apply to me geniuses running around ECC. Thank you to all the personal who tried to keep our cities safe last night.

Every year its the same thing, lots of illegal fireworks and fires. Maybe its time for the people in charge and the fire districts to acknowledge that the county ordinance against fireworks is not enforceable and allow firework to be sold BY THE FIRE DEPTS. not nonprofits. Let the fire dept sell the damn things and keep the money for equipment replacement. From what I have been told by some of the nonprofits in San Bruno, one booth can make $10,000+ in 3 days!

OOOPS been corrected, its $100,000+
