Two Airlifted to Local Hospitals After 5 Car Crash in Discovery Bay

At 2:20 pm Wednesday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a multi-vehicle accident on Highway 4 at Bixler Road in Discovery Bay where two people were airlifted to local hospitals.

Engine 59 arrived on scene where 5 vehicles were involved in a crash where vehicles rear-ended one another. Multiple vehicles apparently became involved after it began with a high-speed rear rend resulting in a chain reaction.

The incident required two medical helicopter transports because two patients were seriously injured with facial and chest injuries.

Although a rear end collision occurred, the accident is under investigation by CHP.
