Tuesday: Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors Set to Re-Organize

The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors will be holding their annual re-organization of the Board Tuesday morning as Supervisor Federal Glovers term as chair is set to end. Supervisor Karen Mitchoff will likely be elected as the 2014  Board Chair.

The Board of Supervisors will also consider approving recommendations for Board appointments to local, regional, and statewide committees, boards, and commissions for 2014. There are a total of 127 appointment assignments between 5-members of the Board.  It’s important to note that of 34 assignments include paid stipends on top of the Board of Supervisor Salary of $8,123 per month ($97,476 annually).

Here is a look at the assignments that provide stipends:

  • Central Contra Costa Solid Waste Authority – $50 per meeting (max 2 per mo)
  • East County Water Management Association – $170 per meeting (max 6 per mo)
  • Hazardous Waste Management Facility Allocation Committee – $150 per meeting
  • West Contra Costa Integrated Waste Management Authority – $50 per meeting
  • ABAG Regional Planning Committee – $150 per meeting
  • Bay Area Air Quality Management District Board of Directors – $100/meeting + travel expense (Max $6K)
  • CCTA Board of Directors – $100 per meeting up to $200 month
  • Central Contra Costa Transit Authority (CCTA) – $100 per meeting up to $200 month
  • Contra Costa Transportation Authority – $100 per meeting up to $400 per month
  • Local Agency Formation Commission – $150 per meeting
  • Metropolitan Transportation Commission – $100 a meeting up to $500 per month per agency
  • Tri-Delta Transit Authority – $100 month
  • ABAG Executive Board – $150 per meeting
  • Bay Conservation & Development Commission – $100 per meeting, max of 4 meetings
  • CCERA (Contra Costa County Employees Retirement Association) Board of Trustees
  • Delta Diablo Sanitation District Governing Board – $170 per meeting (6 meetings max)

Here are two scenarios that play out annually:

  • Tri Delta Transit: This committee consist of City Council, a Board of Supervisor, and members of the committee. For each meeting, committee members receive a $100 stipend. For Board of Supervisors and City Council members, they not only receive their pay as an elected, but they will also receive $100 for this particular meeting.
  • Delta Diablo Sanitation District: This is a District Board of Directors that consist of a Board of Supervisor, the Mayor of Antioch and the Mayor of Pittsburg. On top of their Supervisor and City pay, they can claim $170 per meeting (no more than 6-meetings).
