ANTIOCH, CA, July 30, 2014 – The Eastern Contra Costa Transit Authority, better known as Tri Delta Transit, has been named the best transit system of its size in North America by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) for efforts to enhance service, efficiencies and overall effectiveness.

“This is the highest honor in our industry,” said Jeanne Krieg, Tri Delta Transit’s CEO. “This award is a tribute to our progressive and supportive Board of Directors as well as to the hard work and commitment of each Tri Delta Transit employee. The dedication, enthusiasm, and innovative spirit our employees show every day make me proud to lead our award-winning organization. We are very excited – and honored — to receive this award.” Tri Delta Transit was ranked #1 in the 4 million and under passenger category.

APTA gives out the Outstanding Transportation System Achievement Award annually to honor transit systems demonstrating exceptional efficiency and effectiveness. Transit systems are judged on services and programs, safety, operations, customer service, financial management, attendance and employee costs, advancement of minorities and women, marketing, policy and administration, and community relations.

In achieving this award, Tri Delta Transit has demonstrated itself as a leader locally and across the nation with its environmental initiatives, innovative ideas and partnerships, and its responsive service.

“It is my honor to congratulate Tri Delta Transit for receiving this national recognition,” said Congressman Jerry McNerney. “Their effective polices, innovative customer outreach, and exemplary service means the residents of Eastern Contra Costa County have access to reliable, safe, and high-quality public transportation services. The hard-working men and women of Tri Delta Transit are well deserving of this great distinction.”

Dedication and innovation are nothing new to Tri Delta Transit. In 2006, they were the first transit agency to create a dedicated stroller area on their buses to better serve their customers traveling with children. This progressive idea generated worldwide interest among transit operators and has since been adopted by other transit agencies. More recently, they were among only ten transit operators to be selected to participate in the Federal Transit Administration’s Environmental and Sustainability Management Institute. The result of this effort will be the implementation of a formalized management process that will analyze, control, and reduce the environmental impact of Tri Delta Transit.

Tri Delta Transit is a vital part of Eastern Contra Costa County and this award is a great honor for the entire community. “We share this honor with all of our customers and the citizens in our service area,” said CEO, Jeanne Krieg.

Tri Delta Transit’s efforts are also being recognized by their customers, who continue to use the system in increasing numbers. Fixed route ridership increased 3.4% between 2011 and 2012. It increased 12.7% between 2012 and 2013.

The award will be presented to Tri Delta Transit at the APTA Annual Meeting and EXPO in Houston, Texas on October 14, 2014. This conference brings together more than 10,000 transit industry professionals from across the world.

Tri Delta Transit provides nearly 3,000,000 trips each year to a population of 290,000 residents in the 225 square miles of Eastern Contra Costa County including parts of Martinez and Concord.  Tri Delta Transit operates 13 local bus routes Monday – Friday, four local bus routes on weekends, express commuter service to BART, and door-to-door bus service for senior citizens and people with disabilities.

As a former TriDelta Board Member, this is a very well deserved recognition of its CEO, Jeanne Krieg and her dedicated staff.

The fourth estate is not doing its job by reprinting self aggrandizing press releases like this without vetting them.

@No Way, then I suggest you do not read any of the weekly papers because that is what they print. For the record, we are not going to be vetting announcements of “awards”. What are we going to say, “no they did not win”?

@ECT, that response is why I have come to love this site, you do not put up with BS

Yes, they received the award. But you failed to find out exactly why.

I can tell you that they didn’t earn by providing outstanding service. That press release is just a fluff piece and your repeating it only plays to their misappropriation of tax dollars.

Helpful hint: Ask them how this award was earned instead of repeating what their PIO says. Get a definitive answer. Here’s a hint: In the public transit industry, the CEO of Tri Delta is known as “the APTA queen”. That might have something to do with them receiving the award.

You did take on the Mayor of Antioch recently. No holds barred. He had it coming.

He sits on the Tri Delta Board. You might want to query him as to what qualifies him to sit on a transit agency board; if he ever rides a Tri Delta Transit bus; or, if he even knows what his role besides having them fund his trips to Washington so he can further his political career in advance of his next campaign for a higher office. Surely he is completely up on how Tri Delta came into an award of national notoriety.

Ask Rocha the same thing. She is on that board too.

In Texas, my home state, they would say that both of these Antioch council members have big hats but no cattle.

I’m told that Tri Delta is having a big party in October rather than a board meeting to congratulate themselves. Why don’t you attend and bring all the seniors from the Antioch Senior Center that lost their bus service to Tri Delta and see how they feel about this award. Find out how much Tri Delta is spending on this party and how much service they could have provided for seniors with those funds if that hadn’t wasted them on a self congratulatory party.

Say, you wouldn’t be biased because they pay to advertise on this website. Would you?

Jefferson was right. Democracy depends on a free press. Don’t squander that on self serving press releases from public agencies.

I’ll go back to reading those other weeklies now. 🙂 Maybe one of them will see the light and stop being the mouthpiece for public agencies that aren’t shy about telling us how great they are. Because, we could never come to that conclusion without them telling us.
