Just a reminder that there will be a ribbon cutting today at Creekside Park for the $1 million Marsh Creek Restoration Project at 4:30 pm.

The groundbreaking occurred back in Sept. of 2012 and residents got a taste of how valuable this project was to the community during the heavy rain this winter as the project withstood the elements and prevented flooding.

It should be noted that prior to the groundbreaking, the project was five-years in the making.  The $1,067,550 grant award will restore 1,000 feet of Marsh Creek by providing plant shade trees, construct a creek side natural trail, and build a pedestrian bridge to link Marsh Creek Regional Trail and Creekside Park.

This project was brought to the City of Oakley by FOMCW and the Natural Heritage Institute to restore the creek by widening its banks, constructing a creekside trail, planting shade trees and building a pedestrian bridge that links to East Bay Regional Park District’s Marsh Creek Regional Trail.
This project that brought together the City of Oakley, the Contra Costa Flood Control District, East Bay Regional Park District, Friends of Marsh Creek Watershed and the Natural Heritage Institute (who wrote the grant).
