The Late Jeremy “Lumpy” Sturgill Honored as Brentwood Citizen of the Year

by ECT

During Friday night’s Brentwood Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Awards Dinner, Jeremy “Lumpy” Sturgill was honored as the Citizen of the Year.

Lumpy was a successful business man who had three restaurant locations in Antioch, Brentwood and Pittsburg–first opened in 2008. Lumpy was even featured on the Food Networks “Outrageous Food” with Tom Pizzica–they featured his challenge the Dogpounder which is a 4 1/4 lb burger.

Although his diners were successful, it was his community spirit and big heart in giving back that will forever be remembered.

Sturgill passed away on June 16, 2015 which triggered an outpouring of support from the community to the Sturgill family and the diners.

Lumpys-Toy-DriveLumpy provided the community with countless car shows that fund-raised for many special causes including Toys for Tots with Jeremy Newberry. He also supported many Little League and sports teams within East Contra Costa County, assisted the veterans and special needs community’s with fundraisers, participated in the Tuberous Sclerosis Walks, to making it a point to help East Contra Costa firefighters raise funds for their causes.

Marci Sturgill, Lumpy’s wife, accepted the award on behalf of her late husband. Here is a transcript of her speech.

Given the circumstances, its truly an honor to be up here today accepting this in his honor. To know that in his absence, he is still able to influence the community in such a positive way truly reflects the type of individual that he was during his short existence in this life.

He was the epitome of a business man and a model family man. Hard working, dedicated and goal orientated. He had an uncanny ability to bring people on board for his wild, crazy, and generally brilliant ideas.

To know this man, was to love him and I am grateful for the time I was able to do so.

Thank you.

Other honorees recognized by the Brentwood Chamber of Commerce included: community service award recipient Fred Ginsler; Ambassador of the Year Ed Younger; and Kerri Fritsch as director of the Year. Apex Securities and Asset Management is this the Business of the Year for 2015.
