Contra Costa Sheriff

On Friday, a Deputy Sheriff patrolling West County received a message from his Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) that he was in the proximity of a stolen vehicle.

The Deputy located the car near the intersection of Valley View Road and Sobrante Avenue in El Sobrante. Deputies attempted to initiate a traffic enforcement stop but the vehicle failed to yield and the driver led Deputies on a pursuit.

The pursuit was later terminated as the suspect entered Highway 80 using an off ramp going in the opposite direction.

The CHP and local police agencies were notified. The suspect vehicle was found abandoned on Highway 80. A perimeter was set up. The driver of the vehicle, which was later confirmed to be stolen, was found hiding nearby. A K-9 track led officers to exactly where the suspect was hiding.

The suspect, a 41-year-old Richmond man, was booked on several charges that include vehicle theft, felony evasion, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, outstanding warrant and parole violation.
