Something really neat occurred during the check ceremony today for Take Back Antioch who had been trying to raise $25,000 to help rebuild an Antioch Park. During the ceremony where PG&E was supposed to present a $12,500 check, they increased their donation to a total of $14,500 followed by Assemblyman Jim Frazier donating the final $2,000 to move the project forward.

The $25,000 is the cost of the deductible amount the city has to pay before the insurance will pay for the $125,000 to $150,000 to replace the park.  From the moment Take Back Antioch saw the park burned down, they didn’t wait to spring into action, they just acted out of the kindness of their hearts.

The park was built in 2006 by PG&E volunteers, many of whom work at Gateway Generating Station in Antioch. The damage estimate was $250,000. The city has insurance, but a group called Take Back Antioch set out to raise the 10 percent deductible.

“(I would like to see) the tot-lot completely replaced. I would also like to maybe see the city step up a little bit and put in a motion activated camera with some upgraded lighting which I think can help improve the park even more,” said Brittney Gougeon of Take Back Antioch.

Elected officials in attendance include, Assemblyman Jim Frazier along with Antioch council members Mary Rocha, Gary Agopian, Monica Wilson and Tony Tiscareno. Also in attendance was members of the Antioch Chamber of Commerce which included CEO Sean Wright.

Where is Wade Harper? You would think the mayor would show up to an event as wonderful as this.

It’s a great day to be an Antioch resident. Nice work Take Back Antioch and its great to see all the news coverage. Hopefully this will make punk kids think twice next time that citizens of Antioch wont put up with it. Thank you to PG&E and Jim Frazier for kicking in the remaining funds. Mr. Burkholder, great pictures!
