On Tuesday, Rep. Eric Swalwell (CA-15), the Ranking Member of the CIA Subcommittee of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and Rep Mark DeSaulnier (CA-11) issued the following separate statements after President Donald Trump fired FBI Director James Comey.
Rep Swalwell’s Statement:
“President Trump’s decision to fire FBI Director James Comey – who less than two months ago told the House Intelligence Committee that the President and his Administration were the subject of criminal and counterintelligence investigations regarding their close personal, political and financial ties to Russia and Russia’s active interference in our 2016 presidential election on Trump’s behalf – should send a chill down the spine of every American, no matter who they voted for. This is not what an innocent person would do; this is an abuse of power, and shows a consciousness of guilt.
“The administration of justice must remain free of political influence, and President Trump has just leaped over that line. If he thinks this will halt or even slow investigations into his and his associates’ conduct, he is sadly mistaken. The American people deserve to know what happened, and Trump’s ‘Tuesday Afternoon Massacre’ won’t interfere. Nobody recommended by this administration can be trusted to oversee this investigation, and so the need for an independent bipartisan commission is now more urgent than ever.”
Swalwell and Rep. Elijah Cummings (MD-07), the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, are the authors of H.R. 356, the Protecting Our Democracy Act, which would establish a 12-member, bipartisan, independent commission to investigate Russia’s attempts to interfere in and influence the 2016 elections, and to find a solution for how to prevent this from happening in the future.
Rep DeSaulnier’s Statement:
“Fresh off hearings into Russia’s documented interference into November’s election, the timing of President Trump’s firing of FBI Director James Comey raises serious questions as to whether this is a Nixonian-like abuse of power. As a member of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, I will work with my colleagues to pursue whether this represents an attempt to stifle the investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government. It is time for Republicans and Democrats to unite to establish an independent commission and appoint a special prosecutor to fully investigate the Russian interference into our election. Congress should demand that President Trump release his tax returns so the American public might fully learn of any, and all, potential conflicts of interest—especially after his advisor and son in-law’s family was filmed this week attempting to sell access to green cards in exchange for investments in family projects,” said Congressman Mark DeSaulnier.

I used to like Eric Swalwell, but unfortunately he has gulped the Democratic kook-aid. The kid has potential nut pissed it all away down party lines. Too bad for him.
As for Mark, well he has always been a library. He continues to embarrass, but that’s expected from him. He is a true narcissist.
Unless Russia figure out a way to cast votes in states that were surprise wins for Republican electoral college votes, I don’t see how Russia and Trump pulled this one out of a hat.
The media has more to do swaying votes. After all, Democrats had swept the floor in every sector according to the media. So is it Russia influence or our own media?

to Ed. If you really believe the reason that Commey got fired is because of his handling of the Clinton E-mail investigations…. You are a fool. Do you not remember Trump praising the FBI director when he sent the letter that he was re opening the case ? . Did you not notice that he was giving testimony to the senate regarding the FBI’s investigation into Russian attacks on the election and the Trump team? Did you not understand that he was leading the investigation into Trumps personal involvement in dealings with the same russians who attacked us ? Get your head out of the sand before you accuse the congressman of ” drinking koolaid ” This is a real. The president and his staff are acting like foreign agents hiding the truth from the very people who elected them.

@Truth be Told – I remember our own Californian Maxine Waters demand the firing of FBI Director Commey up until Commey announced the Clinton e-mail investigation results. She changed her mind because Commey added “Extremely Careless” to the unabridged law book as not an offense you can prosecute. Every educated person groaned at this injustice for those who have served time for “gross negligence” in handling classified material.
