Supervisor Piepho: Tragedy and Sadness in District III

by ECT

Mary Piepho

The following is a release that went out via email from Supervisor Mary Nejedly Piephos office offering prayers to the family of Burgess Hu and all the family members directly involved and impacted by Mondays tragic collision on the Byron Highway.

Our hearts and prayers go out to the family of the young boy, Burgess Hu, and all family members directly involved and impacted by yesterday morning’s tragic collision on the Byron Highway. I am grateful and appreciative of the Excelsior Middle School leadership who acted so quickly to provide grief-counseling to the students and staff on campus.

Incidents like this serve as a reminder to all of us, whether in cars, on bike or on foot, that we need to constantly be vigilant and aware of our surroundings.

Parents living in East Contra Costa County are reminded that California Highway Patrol (CHP) will be participating in a Traffic Safety Fair this Saturday, September 28th from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm at the Brentwood Senior Center located at 193 Griffith Lane (off of Balfour) in Brentwood.

This important event is completely free to the public.  Adults and children alike are invited to meet the men and women of our community dedicated to public safety.  The CHP will have plenty of information on bicycle and pedestrian safety.  They will also be passing out fingerprint identification cards and will be inspecting child safety seats for proper installation.

I am committed to continuing my efforts on driver and roadway safety in Contra Costa County and working with the Byron Union School District to do all that we can to keep students safe

Editors Note:
Since this was published yesterday and went out in the afternoon, Supervisor Piepho provided information on last nights vigil which we have removed in order to prevent our readers from showing up tonight when there is no event.
