Supervisor Mary Piepho Joins the Delta Stewardship Council

by ECT

Third term Contra Costa County Supervisor Mary Nejedly Piepho was sworn in this week as a member of the Delta Stewardship Council (Council) because of her recent appointment as Chair of the Delta Protection Commission (DPC).

State law requires that the DPC Chair be a member of the Council, which is composed of members who represent different parts of the state, and offer a variety of expertise in diverse fields relating to Delta management.

Piepho is a recognized leader in working with local, state and federal leaders to find sustainable solutions for providing a more reliable water supply for California and restoring and enhancing the Delta ecosystem. The Council was created by 2009 Delta Reform Act to further the achievement of these state mandated coequal goals.

Piepho is a founding member of the Delta Counties Coalition, which has fiercely fought to keep the coequal goals at the forefront of the water debates throughout the State.

“Local governments are still underrepresented in the dialogue,” Piepho added, “even though impacts of unwise water policies are felt most strongly at the local level. Being on the Council will help ensure our Delta voices are represented.”

The Council has an ambitious agenda for 2015 as it now implements its Delta Plan, a comprehensive management plan for the Delta. This includes prioritizing State investments for restoring and maintaining Delta levees and the execution of the Delta Science Plan, a framework for conducting science that organizes and integrates Delta science activities and builds an open collaborative science community (One Delta, One Science).

On the Council’s agenda today is a presentation on Australia’s innovative approaches to combating its decade-long drought. The Delta Stewardship Council looks for opportunities to leverage and model successes elsewhere in the country and world.

Piepho is a Delta waterfront resident herself, and is committed to developing and supporting solutions that protect the Delta, its ecosystem and water quality.

This is great news! Mary has been a champion, rallying Delta local governments, counties and our congressional delegation battling the BDCP and the Southern and Central California water grab with their proposed peripheral tunnels.

Who will she threaten there?

I agree with Arne. Supervisor Piepho has been a steady advocate for the Delta and is providing real leadership within these groups. She has been instrumental in pulling all the Delta counties together in a united front to protect the Delta from outside interests (water grabs).

Thanks Mary for representing us on both the DPC and the Delta stewardship council. Keep up the good work!

She is actually getting things done on the Delta? Last I heard they were moving forward with the tunnels? How about that water Hyacinth. What a fake.

Yes “Joe Union”, she is getting things done. Perhaps you should read the article (above). The tunnel project and hyacinth problems are both State projects which have both stalled. Spraying for aquatic weeds (Hyacinth is only one invasive species) is scheduled to begin as soon as weather, tide and permitting conditions merit. Joe, you really need to pay closer attention if you are going to attempt to sling mud for your union. On the other hand, If you really have issues with the tunnels and aquatics weeds, your complaints should be directed at your State officials. I’m betting your issues have nothing to do with either.

Most of what you post here is “fake” by actual definition. Is that what they teach in those Union shop manuals? Or is it simply premeditated ignorance? When it comes to the latter, we have witnessed no shortage of examples.

Da… She only gets things done for herself. She is a selfish no good supervisor sucking away at the public trough. There are many state reps like Frazier to take care of this. She should focus on land and road issues. This is just another stipend to pad the pay.

@ Bad Supervisors,

John, John, John your infatuation with Mary Piepho is showing again. Hopefully for your sake someday you might get over having your @zz handed to you by the Supervisor. Until then your little bursts of anger just solidify that you can’t get beyond your own bad behavior. Isn’t that what got you in trouble in the first place? It’s really difficult to believe you are an adult, yet act like such a small insecure child. Lets’ review shall we?

You poor little man. I guess reading wasn’t your strong suit.
