San Francisco – Contra Costa County Supervisor Federal Glover underwent heart and kidney transplant surgery at 2 a.m. today at UCSF Medical Center. The 13-hour surgery is being conducted by world-renown cardiac transplant surgeon, Dr. Georg Wieselthaler, who has successfully performed over 350 such surgeries, providing training to cardiac surgeons throughout the world.
Federal and his family were informed last night around 10 p.m. that a matching donor had been located. After the surgery is completed, Federal will remain at UCSF for several weeks of recovery.
Federal’s wife, Janis Glover, wanted to express her thanks and appreciation to Federal’s entire medical team for their support and expertise during this time and for the outstanding care he has received at UCSF. She also wanted to especially thank the family of the anonymous donor for their generous and life-changing gift during what for them must be a truly difficult time.
She asks that everyone keep them all in their thoughts and prayers in the days ahead. Anyone wishing to send get well wishes to Federal may send them in care of his office at 315 E. Leland Rd., in Pittsburg.
