Today,  the Brentwood Armory is set to host its Grand Reopening Celebration Party between 11:00 am to 2:00 pm to showcase their newly remodeled and expanded store.

KAT Country will be on hand to help them celebrate by giving away 2-tickets every 10-minutes for 2-hours from 12:00-2:00 pm for their Listener Appreciation Concert set for June 21.  The event will feature food and plenty of raffle prizes.

As part of their celebration, they want to showcase their expanded store which features more firearms, equipment and new merchandise.

Shannon Casha, owner of the Brentwood Armory and former U.S. Marine, explained they outgrew their space and needed to expand to ensure their customers had the best selection possible and create a better customer experience with added square footage.

“People buying guns like huge selections so we want to be the biggest and carry something unique that maybe someone else doesn’t have,” said Casha. “We expanded from 12 ½ feet to 48 additional feet of handgun space.”

The expansion allowed the Armory to add an additional 185 pistols into the display case instead of the original 40 firearms.

“We have tripled the size of our pistols by expanding the gun case,” says Casha. “Getting the additional wall space we were able to put up the additional rifles that we couldn’t stack before because we had to concentrate on certain guns that sold more often than others. Now with the additional space, we can add a variety of different firearms.”

Casha is cognizant that with expansion it may lead to over stimulation so he works with his team to ensure each customer is treated the same and lots of questions are being asked to help the customer experience and narrow down selection.

“We ask a lot of questions to stimulate their experience. We ask what are they looking for? Have you shot a gun before? Are you new to firearms? We also look at the size of someone hands in order to see what kind of gun will fit into their hands. Asking about their training level, if any, is also important,” says Casha. “We zero it down to a set of guns that is more comfortable for them to handle. The last thing you want to do is put a gun that you don’t feel comfortable with them handling it into their hands.”

Casha has admitted in the past that he has not sold a gun to someone because it was not right to them. Instead of turning them down, however, he worked with them on a solution and had a gun special ordered.  We will customize a gun.

The Brentwood Armory also caters to women by offering  private appointments so they can learn how to handle a firearm and look at merchandise without feeling the pressure of others watching. It’s meant to enhance their user experience without the intimidation factor.

“Sometimes women do not feel comfortable around guns and so we offer by appointment one hour before the store opens and one hour after close so they can comfortably select a firearm,” says Casha. “A lot of times they come in not knowing what they want so we provide them with the customer service they deserve in a firearm selection.”

He admits that given the crime in East County, he is seeing more and more women come into the store looking at firearms as an option to help feel protected if ever needed. Several local business owners have also come in looking for protection.

“People want to feel protected and we offer a solution,” said Casha. “Whether it’s your home or business, our goal is to find the right firearm to fit your needs.”

For anyone who has little to no experience with firearms, Casha has advice for home protection situations.

“If it’s going to be for a home defense situation, we like to see people get into a home defense shotgun. They are easy to handle, make a distinctive sound that may scare someone away. It has a scare and noise factor and easy to shoot,” explained Casha. “Now if you are a smaller person, a shotgun may not be the right firearm for you and a smaller handgun may be the better fit. It all depends on the person and reasoning behind the purchase.”

When the Brentwood Armory is not providing service to its customers, they are finding ways to work with the local community to help out when they can—specifically to veteran causes. In the last year, they have donated to the Wounded Warrior Foundation, raised money from raffles to donate back to the Cupertino Veterans Memorial Foundation and donated guns to the Matthew Axelson Foundation.

“We have a real tight relationship with the local military and it’s important to us to have that,” said Casha. “I come from a long line of family veterans and I am a former marine so it’s very important for me to give back and show my support because I just want to thank them for their service. They are also the first ones I want to hire because they help us enjoy our freedom we enjoy today.”

I wish they would allow Brentwood Armory to open an indoor shooting range. An in door shooting range is very much needed in East County.

I agree with Chuck, I have zero interest in owning a gun but shooting them is fun. And a safe indoor range would be nice to have close by.
