Stonebarger: Barr Best Choice for County Supervisor, Touts Fiscal Responsibility

by ECT

Dear Editor,

Fiscal Responsibility is nice buzzword for most politicians.  Unfortunately few practice what they preach during election season.  Steve has proven with his voting record at the City of Brentwood that Fiscal Responsibility is a belief vs. a talking point.

Fiscal Sustainability is a primary pillar of being fiscally responsible.  Without sustainability the public entity can’t allocate the resources to where they’re needed most, such as public safety and maintaining a great quality of life.  As we slowly came out of the recession Steve was instrumental in adjusting the budget to allow us to hire more police officers that can be sustained during challenged times.

To the communities detriment, most politicians view public finance through the short-term lens of ‘What can I do during my term?’ or ‘How will I achieve my campaign promises?’  Steve has shown his ability to view finance in the only way to sustain a great quality of life in a community, through long term conservative budgeting such as the 10 year fiscal model which he helps direct as part of the finance sub committee on the Brentwood City Council.

I’ve had the opportunity to work with Steve to help position Brentwood to build a new library, hire more police officers and most important to improve the quality of life in Brentwood for our residents.  I have no doubt his proven record will end in similar results for the residents of East Contra Costa County.

Sincerely,

Erick Stonebarger
Council Member
City of Brentwood

Someone is not being truthful. Fiscal Responsibility in what way? They are burning through money like there is no tomorrow. The city hall was a butt load of money, they have a new library coming, and new dispatch center and continue to overcharge residents for water use.

They are giving the mayor an extra $500 per month for no other reason than just because.

Steve is on a fire board who failed to pass two tax measures because the fire board can’t live within its means. You now have him on the council asking the public for more money for a third time. The city owes the State of California $12 million dollars.

That doesn’t seem like someone who is very responsible for taxpayer money to me. Steve may vote one way but he has never led. The county needs a leader and its not him.

Hey Erick,
Nice try penning for your fellow council member, but your letter and endorsement is transparent.
You and Steve serve on what is considered the worst Brentwood city council in memory. The only reason there has been any measure of financial, success is due to two things. Good city managers and out of control growth. Neither you or Steve deserve an ounce of credit. You haven’t earned it because sitting on a lame duck council routinely voting yes doesn’t reflect leadership. For the most part you Erick have been a disappointment so your letter of support is just one more reason NOT to vote for Steve.

The person who wrote the comment above said it. The county needs a leader and it isn’t him.

Piepho puppets are chirping again. Time for a good honest leader. I am voting Barr hands down.
