State Assembly: Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee Could Get New Chair

by ECT

Ben Hueso

Just throwing this out there for those who have been watching the Delta water grab play out over the last year with the Governors plan. It appears that Assemblyman Ben Hueso, D-San Diego, is already readying a run for the open San Diego Senate seat set to be vacated by state Sen. and Democratic Rep.-elect Juan Vargas in the coming weeks.

Huerso confirmed this the same day he was sworn in for a second term in the state Assembly. Vargas, who has yet to announce when he will give up his Senate seat, has already endorsed his candidacy. Once Vargas resigns, Gov. Jerry Brown will call a special election to fill the seat. The primary contest will be held about sixteen weeks from that date.

So why does this matter to East County?  Simple, Ben Hueso is the chair of The Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee at the California State Assembly.  The primary jurisdictions are water resources, flood management, fish and game, parks and recreation, and wildlife. Should Hueso be successful, it will mean someone else will be appointed Chair and for our sake here in the Delta region, let’s hope its someone from our area and at the very worst, Northern California.

Hueso wants our water, so does everyone else from Southern California, so we need to get the people in place in order to protect it.
