Special Needs Child Crashes During Joyride in Brentwood

by ECT

Brentwood Police and American Medical Response arrived to a traffic collision on Larkspur Lane in Brentwood where a special needs child took his parents keys and hopped into the family van and drove off. The child eventually crashed damaging multiple vehicles.

The incident occurred at 3:27 pm where the child clipped a boat at the intersection of Spruce St. and Larkspur Lane. The boy then continued down Larkspur before coming to a stop by hitting multiple parked cars at the end of the street causing significant damage.

No one was seriously injured, however, the boy was visibly shaken up from the incident.

On a side note: I tip my hat to AMR and Brentwood PD units on scene for comforting the boy and trying to keep him calm and the care they provided the boy.

I would be curious to know who was caring for the boy was in at the time this happened.

That certainly deserves a good answer Jim. Sad thing to happen, hope he is ok but understands what he did.

I know we don’t live in a perfect world but I hope the parents are more careful in the future. Obviously having car keys accessible in their home is not good. This could have had a very tragic ending. Glad no one was killed or seriously injured.

Special needs child or not, its impossible to watch a child 24 hours a day. This could have happened to anyone.
