Sheriffs Office: Pursuit Nets Arrest of Kidnapping Suspect

The Contra Costa County Sheriffs Office announced Saturday evening that pursuit out of North Richmond to Albany resulted in an arrest of a subject wanted for kidnapping.

According to the Sheriffs Office, at about 2:30 PM, Bay Station Deputy Sheriffs attempted to conduct a traffic enforcement stop after observing a Prius commit vehicle code violations in North Richmond.

The Prius did not yield, leading the Deputies on a pursuit. It was subsequently determined that the registered owner had an arrest warrant for kidnapping, evasion, false imprisonment and domestic violence. The driver of the vehicle matched the description of the registered owner. During the pursuit, the female passenger appeared distressed and frantically waved her arms out of the window.

The pursuit terminated on San Pablo Avenue in Albany, where the driver fled on foot. He was apprehended by a Richmond Police K-9.

According to a release by the El Cerrito Police Department, they assisted the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office after a traffic pursuit of a subject wanted for a dangerous felony.

Sheriff’s deputies trailed the suspect using a helicopter. The pursuit ended on San Pablo Avenue near Brighton Avenue in Albany. During the pursuit, the subject attempted to carjack two victims in El Cerrito, but was unsuccessful in both attempts.

The subject also was involved in several hit and run collisions which resulted in no citizens being injured. The suspect was taken into custody and is no longer a threat to public safety. The suspect is not being identified at this time as the investigation is ongoing. The female passenger is the victim of a kidnapping.
