Senator DeSaulnier Responds to Governor Brown’s Veto of SB 110

Mark DeSaulnier

The Senate Transportation and Housing Committee, which is chaired by Senator Mark DeSaulnier (D-Concord), asked the Legislative Analyst’s Office to convene an independent panel of experts to review possible safety issues with the new eastern span of the Bay Bridge. SB 110 would have provided the necessary legal protections for the panel of experts to move forward with their review.

Senator Mark DeSaulnier (D-Concord) responds to Governor Brown’s veto of SB 110.

“While I disagree and am disappointed with Governor Brown on his veto of SB 110, the Senate Transportation and Housing Committee will move forward with its own aggressive investigation of the Bay Bridge. In the coming months the Committee will conduct a thoughtful examination of the problems that caused this project to be 10 years late and $5 billion over budget. The toll payers deserve answers. There are many lessons to be learned that can help us make Caltrans management more accountable and improve the outcomes of future mega-projects.”

Sen Mark D,

I will not hold my breath for those “Heads to roll” as you were quoted early on regarding the failed inspection system that should have caught this.
