East County residents will have plenty of holiday themed events to choose from today which begins as early as 7:30 am in Antioch at the Kiwanis Holiday Run. Pittsburg will also see the return of its Holiday Parade, with Santa making plenty of stops starting with Black Bear Diner. For a change of pace, the El Campanil will hold two showings of the classic holiday film “Its a Wonderful Life”.

Holiday Run & Walk hosted by the Delta-Antioch Kiwanis Club
The Kiwanis Club of the Delta from Antioch, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson, East Bay Regional Park District, and the City of Antioch proudly present The Holiday Run and Walk for Health today beginning at 7:30 am at the Contra Loma Regional Park in Antioch. The event will be benefiting local schools, youth, and libraries and is an effective vehicle to promote and build a healthy community—starting with our youth. Although it’s too late to register online, simply print registration form https://runsignup.com/Race/CA/Antioch/AntiochHolidayRun and bring it to the race to participate.

 

Brownstone Garden Winter Photos

Brownstone Gardens Photo Open House
Brownstone Gardens will be opening up their facility today from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm to help local residents attain the perfect holiday photograph. They are allowing folks access to their beautiful facility to serve as a back drop.  The only requirement is that you bring your own photographer. Photos with Santa and Mrs Claus will be available for $10.

Brunch With Santa – Black Bear Diner

Pittsburg Holiday Parade
The Annual Holiday Parade returns to Old Town at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 14. The parade route will begin at 8th Street and Railroad Avenue, and will continue along Railroad to its end at Third Street.  After the parade, the City Recreation Department will have activities for children and families to enjoy at Old Town Plaza, located along Railroad Avenue between Fifth and Sixth streets. Also in the neighborhood is the Pittsburg Arts and Community Foundation boutique, which is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 690 Railroad Avenue. Come for the parade, stay for the holiday activities and shopping. No entry fee.

Volunteers are needed for the Friends of Oakley Christmas Basket Distribution event at Almond Grove Elementary School. The event is being held from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.

El Campanil Theatre: It’s a Wonderful Life

The classic holiday film it’s a Wonder Life (1946) will be shown twice today at the El Campanil Theatre. The first showing is at 1:00 pm followed by another one at 4:00 pm. Tickets are $8 for adults and $7 for seniors.

It’s a Wonderful Life is a 1946 American Christmas drama film produced and directed by Frank Capra, based on the short story “The Greatest Gift”, which Philip Van Doren Stern wrote in 1939 and privately published in 1945. The film is considered one of the most loved films in American cinema and has become traditional viewing during the Christmas season, alongside popular classics such as Holiday Inn, A Christmas Carol, White Christmas, Meet Me in St. Louis and Miracle on 34th Street.

The film stars James Stewart as George Bailey, a man who has given up his dreams in order to help others and whose imminent suicide on Christmas Eve brings about the intervention of his guardian angel, Clarence Odbody (Henry Travers). Clarence shows George all the lives he has touched and how different life in his community of Bedford Falls would be had he never been born.

Santa Clause is Coming to Town
Join Santa at Sand Creek Crossing in Brentwood (Raley’s Parking lot) from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm where there will be face paintings, major show, holiday crafts, train rides, and photos with Santa.

 

Discovery Bay Yacht Club – Christmas Lighted Boat Parade
