San Jose Motorcycle Officer Dies in Crash

San Jose: On Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at 4:22 PM, San Jose Police Officer Michael Katherman was involved in an on-duty traffic collision.

The preliminary investigation revealed Officer Katherman was in full uniform, riding a San Jose Police motorcycle northbound North 10th Street. The adult male driver of a silver colored minivan was travelling southbound North 10th Street when he attempted to make a left turn onto eastbound Horning Street when both vehicles collided.

A witness stopped to assist Officer Katherman and used the officer’s police radio to call for help. Officers and paramedics arrived on scene. Officer Katherman was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.

The driver of the minivan remained on-scene and is cooperating with the investigators.
