WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Eric Swalwell (CA-15) issued the following statement after several people were shot Wednesday morning in Alexandria, VA, at a practice session for this week’s charity Congressional baseball game:

I pray for the recovery of my GOP colleagues, staff, and U.S. Capitol Police officers who were shot at their baseball practice this morning. This charity game has always been a refuge from the tense battles inside the Capitol. To see players, staff, and officers who protect us under attack is sickening. Thank God for the brave Capitol Police officers who responded.”

Rep. Swalwell does play in the annual charity game for the Democratic side. The Democrats practice at a different facility.

According to CNN, Rep. Steve Scalise was shot Wednesday morning in Alexandria, Virginia, a House colleague told CNN, in what sources are calling an apparent “deliberate attack.” A congressional staffer was also shot.

Scalise, a member of the House Republican leadership as the majority whip, appeared to have been shot in the hip and it appeared two Capitol Hill police agents were shot, according to Rep. Mo Brooks, who told CNN he was on deck when the shooting occurred.
Fox News is reporting A spokesperson from Scalise said he was “stable.” Five people were “transported medically” from the scene, Alexandria Police Chief Michael Brown said. It appeared that included Scalise, a congressional aide, the gunman and two law enforcement officers — one of whom was hit by fragments.

Here is Rep. Scalise Bio:
Congressman Steve Scalise proudly serves his colleagues as House Majority Whip and represents the First Congressional District of Louisiana, which stretches from the culturally distinct New Orleans suburbs to the vibrant bayous and wetlands abundant in natural resources. During the 113th Congress, he served as chairman for the Republican Study Committee, the conservative House caucus.
Scalise is a strong conservative leader who upholds the Constitution, advocating for the principles of fiscal discipline, lower taxes, an all-of-the-above national energy strategy, a robust national defense, and conservative values. Through his previous experiences as House Deputy Whip and RSC Chairman, Scalise developed a proven formula to pass effective legislation that unites his colleagues.
As Chairman of the Republican Study Committee, a caucus of more than 170 conservative members in the House, he coalesced members around a unified vision. During his time as chairman, Scalise championed a free-market, patient-centered Obamacare alternative that gained the support of 130 House members. He also introduced legislation that promotes job creation and economic growth, established an RSC national defense working group, released a conservative budget that would balance in four years, and crafted bills that protect constitutionally-guaranteed rights, like freedom of speech, from unelected Washington bureaucrats.
As a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Scalise is fighting to enact a national energy strategy that increases the supply of American energy through enhanced production and technological innovation to lower prices at the pump and reduce our dependence on Middle Eastern oil. Scalise recently introduced a jobs bill that would unleash the power of American energy production by opening up new areas of the OCS for domestic energy production, approving the Keystone XL pipeline, stopping the EPA’s war on coal and repealing the ban on energy exploration in ANWR.
A steadfast defender of the Louisiana coastline, Scalise led the effort in the House to pass the RESTORE Act.  The RESTORE Act was signed into law in July 2012 and dedicated BP Clean Water Act fines to the Gulf Coast as Louisiana works to fully restore our coastal ecosystems in the aftermath of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. This legislation is widely regarded as the single most significant action taken to restore Louisiana’s coast in her history.

A native of Jefferson Parish, Scalise is a graduate of Louisiana State University where he earned a degree in Computer Science and a minor in Political Science. Scalise is married to the former Jennifer Letulle and they have two children, Madison and Harrison.

  1. Shut up, you Democrats promote this stuff with your #resistance bullcrap and ANTIFA, BLM, Hollywood, all have blood on their hands, I left the party last year and will never be back

    • Oooo you left a party? Like that means anything. Money is the only thing that runs this nation, not ideals or philosophy.

  2. Why is this nincompoop suddenly all over the news these days? Who in hell is he? You can’t turn on any news channel without him popping up on one of the programs or more. He represents Lafayette and should stick to working with HIS constituents.

  3. The dems have blood on their hands. The constant rhetoric by the left is ruining the good American citizens opportunity for jobs, tax reform, security of our country, and the ability to move forward. These actions by the left are insighting riot type behavior. The mocking of our president is distracting the country from moving forward and addressing our 21 trillion dollar debt.Be part of America and stop this insane behavior.

    • Yea because people only had nice things to say about Obama. Stop with the left right republican demomcrat rhetoric. The only thing that matters in politics is money, that’s why we have Trump as president. The epitome of how if you’re rich in America you can do anything.

        • Yea it’s sad that something as long as history itself, the haves and have not’s is still a narrative in our country. But if you bring up sharing wealth, feeding the poor and sick, ECT right wingers only see it as a handout instead of humility. The rat race conditioned them to only work and forget who they are.

          • The have nots are only to blame their lazy ass selfves. Go to school, learn, respect, get a job ,and work hard. Not so some lazy pos can slide by, that’s the democrat left way. Socialism, always fails

      • That’s a joke. Hilary spent multiple times what Donald spent and she lost. The voters know a lying loser when they see one rich or poor.

  4. Most Americans are MODERATES, including me. The far left and far right are EXTREMISTS, and equally out of touch. Moderates keep an even keel.
