Rep. McNerney to Host Veterans History Project to Collect Veterans’ Stories of Service

by ECT
Congressman Jerry McNerney

Washington, D.C. – To safeguard the stories of those who have dedicated their lives in service to our nation, Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-09) is pleased to announce that he will once again participate in the Library of Congress’s Veterans History Project.

“The men and women of our armed forces serve our country without the expectation of any recognition for their service,” said Congressman McNerney. “The Veterans History Project keeps their stories alive so future generations may hear directly from former servicemembers about their experiences.”

Since 2000, the Library of Congress has collected firsthand accounts from American veterans to preserve and make accessible to the public as part of its Veterans History Project. Veterans who served in the U.S. military in any capacity from WWI to the present – regardless of branch or rank – and are no longer serving, are eligible to participate.  Additionally, Gold Star family members are also encouraged to take part in the project by sharing photographs, letters, diaries and memoirs of their loved ones. Video and audio recordings of their remembrances will be archived at the Library of Congress.

“I’m proud to participate in this important project to help capture the stories of the many brave men and women who have served our nation,” said Rep. McNerney.  “I hope that these remembrances will serve as inspiration for future generations.”

The Congressman’s district offices will be working with local veterans and students, who will conduct one-on-one interviews with participating veterans and compile recordings of the accounts to be submitted to the permanent collections of the Library of Congress. Gold Star families can also bring their contributions to Congressman McNerney’s district offices, located below.  Congressman McNerney will be hosting the Veterans History Project at the following locations:
