Stockton, CA – On Saturday, Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-09) honored students that have been accepted to the U.S. Service Academies from California’s 9th Congressional District.
Students honored included:
- Jack Dale, Town of Discovery Bay, Naval Academy
- Xochitl Fernandez, City of Oakley, Military Academy
- Kyle Lewis, City of Galt, Air Force Academy
- Tin Pham, City of Stockton, Air Force Academy
- Patrick Moso, City of Lodi, Air Force Academy
The following students have appointments to attend the Military Academy: Julia Coon of Stockton, Xochitl Fernandez of Oakley, Tin Pham of Lodi, Marc Setness of Stockton.
The following students have appointments to attend the Naval Academy: Jack Dale of Discovery Bay and Christine Posis of Bremerton, Washington (parent is a Stockton resident serving on active duty in the United States Navy).
The following students have appointments to attend the Air Force Academy: Patrick Moso of Lodi, Kevin Chen of Brentwood and Kyle Lewis of Galt.
Each year Rep. McNerney nominates a limited number of people to four of the five service academies. The honor of attending a service academy comes with an obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.
To be considered for a nomination, each student must submit the nomination application, transcripts, letters of recommendation, and SAT or ACT scores. The students are interviewed by the academy nomination advisory committee, which is comprised of retired military officers as well as local leaders in business and education. The nominations were based on the advisory committee’s recommendations.
The reception took place at the VFW Luneta Post 52, 513 North Center Street, Stockton, CA 95202.
