Rep. DeSaulnier’s Statement on Reports President Trump Asked FBI Director Comey to End Investigation of Flynn

Press Release

Washington, DC – Congressman Mark DeSaulnier (CA-11) issued the following statement in response to reports that President Trump asked the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director James Comey to shut down the federal investigation into former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn.

“We are at a critical moment in our nation’s history. The reported attempt by President Trump to put an end to the FBI’s investigation into Michael Flynn is an inappropriate abuse of power and reason for grave concern. In order to maintain faith in our democracy and trust in our government, it is essential that Republicans and Democrats set aside party affiliation and seek answers to the many questions plaguing this Administration and its connection to Russia.

“I joined my Democratic colleagues on the House Oversight and Government Reform and Judiciary Committees to demand the immediate launch of a joint investigation into any attempts by the President and his top officials to obstruct the ongoing criminal, counter-intelligence, and oversight investigations currently being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Department of Justice, and Congress into members of the Trump campaign and their contacts with Russian officials.

“It is incumbent upon Members of Congress to uphold their Constitutional duty to serve as a check on the Executive Branch, to follow the facts, and to get to the truth. The credibility of the Office of the President of the United States and our government intuitions demand it, and most importantly, the American people deserve it,” said Congressman Mark DeSaulnier.

  1. Don’t waste taxpayers money on another investigation that will lead to nowhere. You said we should put party affiliations aside and I agree with that. Let’s try to get along and get our great country out of debt. Let’s get people working again. Let’s train people who have no job to work again. We have done it before and can do it again.

    • All this congressman does is cry and collect his inflated benefits on the way to the bank. He doesn’t care about his responsibilities as a congressman.

  2. Again @Dud, just because you don’t like it doesn’t make it fake.

Two words for you, Mr. Duarte…Richard Nixon.

I think the President might have shot himself in the foot when he tossed Rod Rosenstein under the bus. We now have a special counsel assigned who has impeccable credentials and who has worked under Bush and Obama. THIS is exactly what the country needed.

If there’s no there, there, great. That said, the American people deserve to know either way. I should say that I’m not a fan of impeachment because Pence would be even worse for personal liberty (you can read that as keeping the government out of our bedrooms and private lives) than President Trump.

    • Please review the history of Richard Nixon during the time he was President. You will change your mind citing Nixon’s actions compared to Trump’s. However, you will not be able to deny the comparison of Nixon/Clinton on destroying evidence during an investigation.

  3. I can not believe all of these Commie-loving libs like Jerry D, and the Congressman shut-up and the the_dudette who are all supporting those Russkie-loving traitors who are undermining our Beloved and Sacred Country.

All of you are UnAmerican and need to stop sponging off of your Section 8ight babies and go to Work yourselves.

You disgust me. You disgust your families. You disgust your Parents. All of us are Sad because of you. You would give our Blessed Country to the Russians. Can you not see you Error Of Your Ways?????

God Bless America and GOD HELP YOU!

    • Commie lovin’ libs….oh, how intelligent you are. What a beacon of smarts. Russkies. God Bless Murica……how about getting some of that free public education you obviously missed out on in your youth

  4. How about a press release explaining why you are against the latest gas tax. You represent the people of your district and not the Democratic party or Brown.
